Senior Planner - Part Time - Hybrid/Greater Phoenix Area, AZ

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Senior Planner to join our team of professionals. This position offers great opportunities for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments. You'll be a member of our highly respected team of professionals with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Serve as a contract planner / on-call staff for municipal clients
  • Provide day-to-day advisory support to city planning departments
  • Support or lead zoning code updates and development standards
  • Contribute to long-range planning efforts (general plans, specific plans, policy studies)
  • Prepare staff reports and recommendations for planning commissions and councils
  • Process development applications (entitlements, site plans, subdivisions, use permits)
  • Manage projects, budgets, and client relationships (depending on experience level)

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Understanding basic planning and zoning practice along with the ability to review plans and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance with such regulations
  • Reading and interpreting site plans, floor plans, elevations, and sections. Ability to understand an apply dimensional scales as it applies to development review
  • Writing and communicating effectively
  • The application of statistical, algebraic, or geometric knowledge to practical situations
  • Working with computer hardware and software programs, which may include the Microsoft Office suite, the Adobe suite, Internet applications, GIS, desktop plan review software, and electronic permitting systems.
  • Being able to positively interact with the other team members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
  • Ability to operate independently in a client facing environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Demonstrating specific attention to detail

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduation from a recognized College or University with a bachelor's degree in planning, landscape architecture, public administration, geography, architecture, civil engineering, environmental sciences, or a closely related field
  • 7+ years' experience working for a city or county planning agency (as staff or consultant) with experience processing moderately complex to complex development applications is required.
