08/12The Provo City Library is looking for a part-time Information Systems Technician to provide technical work in the operations and maintenance of various hardware and software systems with specific support to library patrons in the use of these systems. What is the compensation?

$19.00 per hour

What are the main duties?

  • Maintain user help desk for technical hardware and software issues.

  • Ensure a quick response and timely resolution on all inquiries.

  • Troubleshoot basic hardware and software problems on the phone or on location.

  • Maintain an accurate log of support calls and their results.

  • Instruct users on basic software and computer use, best practices, and procedures.

  • Deploy basic software applications on workstations, scanners, printers, and other computerized devices.

  • Detect and eliminate basic system viruses, spyware, and other malware.

  • May perform elementary programming, including writing and maintaining system queries.

  • Assist in determining need for, evaluating, selecting, installing, and replacing a variety of hardware, including printers, projectors, scanners and other peripherals.

  • Assist in maintaining life cycle of hardware and software, including maintaining an accurate inventory, facilitating manufacturer warranties, and analyzing replacement needs.

  • Assist other staff members as needed and perform other related duties as required.

What do I need to apply?

Provo City will honor an equivalent combination of job-related education and/or experience [one year of post-secondary education/training for six months of experience].

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • One year of computer operation and system support experience.

  • A valid, lawful Driver License may be required.

What is the schedule?

This position will be 18 hours a week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 4:00 - 9:00 pm and Saturday 1:00 - 6:00 pm.

What are the physical and environmental factors?

Requires moderate physical lifting of 40 lbs., frequently sitting, standing, and walking, maintaining concentrated attention to detail for long periods, vision for data analysis and troubleshooting. Work is usually indoors and physically onsite. Requires exposure to computers, electronics, electrical devices, and high stress situations due to contact with individuals frustrated with technical support issues.

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on August 13, 2026. Applicants mustmeet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
