SUMMARY
The Department of Athletics at SUNY Brockport invites applications for a part-time Bus Driver. Bus drivers are responsible for the safe operation of passenger buses used in transporting student athletes and staff to and from designated locations for the purpose of team competitions or shuttles. In addition, they are responsible for various duties of fleet maintenance coordination of three athletic buses and four passenger vans. Applicants must meet all State and Federal pre-employment requirements of the position prior to employment, including appropriate driver's license for type of vehicle(s) being operated and DOT physical certification. Applicants must commit to availability for weekdays, some weekends, evenings, and occasional overnights on an as needed basis.
JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Operates passenger bus/van while safely transporting passengers in various road conditions.
  • Plans efficient routes to specific locations and accurately estimates travel time.
  • Assists with the loading and unloading process.
  • Performs pre/post trip vehicle safety inspections.
  • Cleans interior and exterior of vehicle(s) post-trip.
  • Fuels vehicle(s) when needed.
  • Reports repair and maintenance needs.

REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years of experience driving passenger buses
  • Possess a valid NYS CDL Class B Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement
  • Possess a valid NYS Driver's License appropriate to all vehicle(s) operated
  • Possess a current Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card
  • Subject to random drug testing after hire and must maintain current (DOT) physical
  • Demonstrates effective oral communication skills to exchange information

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Mechanical knowledge of buses and passenger vans
  • Ability to assess and complete minor repairs if a breakdown occurs
