POSITION OVERVIEW Applications Accepted from: All Persons Interested Division: Systemwide Programs Section: Community Education and Engagement Location: 500 McKinney Workdays & Hours: Monday - Sunday, 8 am - 8 pm* (varies) *Subject to change* DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Houston Public Library (HPL) is seeking a Part Time Senior Library Outreach Representative to join the Community Education and Engagement Team. HPL's Community Education and Engagement Team provides library services, technology access, and outreach services to underserved communities throughout the city of Houston via specialized mobile library technology lab and other vehicles. This team facilitates technology training, workforce development, digital literacy, STEM, early literacy education, and outreach efforts in areas that may not have access to a library location.

The ideal candidate is flexible, innovative, a good communicator, has strong customer service and technology skills and a willingness to learn new things, and is ready to provide excellent HPL experience to Houston residents of all ages and backgrounds

Extensive training and customer service experience is required. Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to: Leads outreach activities for all ages promoting library services in a variety of venues for varied audiences. Conducts general or specialized training as assigned, including technology, literacy, STEM, and workforce development as assigned, for a variety of external and internal audiences including children, teens, and adults Develops and maintains age-appropriate programs and create associated curriculum and teaching aids and tools for technology.

Works with community stakeholders including neighborhood groups, voluntary organizations, and the general public to bring library services to the community. Performs research and gathers necessary information to resolve routine customer request and respond to inquiries via mail, telephone, e-mail and personal contact and communicates findings to customers and processes requests utilizing a computer and/or tracking system. Assists in maintaining unit's databases and statistical reporting as assigned.

Other duties as assigned. Requires frequent driving of a City of Houston vehicle (Sprinter van and RV)as well as evening, weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and holiday shift work. WORKING CONDITIONS Position requires stooping and bending; lifting of library materials up to 40 pounds. Must be able to move freely throughout the library to file/retrieve library materials. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or GED. Associates Degree or higher preferred. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum two (2) year customer service/training experience required.

Proficient using Microsoft Office and Web 2.0 technology. A Class C driver's license or better is required. Bilingual preferred

PREFERENCES PREFERENCES **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** Experience providing training to students of all ages. Knowledge and skills with technology including iPads, gaming, 3-D printers, etc. Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Experience working in a public library setting.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others. Experience driving large vehicles such as recreational vehicles. Be able to lift up to 40 pounds when setting up events Experience working with children and families; and To better serve our diverse communities, fluency in a foreign language is highly preferred.
