Position/Program Information TYPE OF RECRUITMENT: OPEN COMPETITIVE - EMERGENCY FILING START DATE: 08/10/2026 AT 9:00 A.M. (PT) FILING END DATE: 08/24/2026 AT 5:00 P.M. (PT) EXAM NUMBER: b2560A-EA The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness, and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected

We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use. If you are looking for a new career that will directly benefit the population of LA County, this may be the opportunity for you. The Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Senior Network Systems Administrator related to the homelessness crisis.

Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Senior Network Systems Administrator. Essential Job Functions Performs the more complex network and server administration functions, including configuring, installing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading hardware and operating systems. Installs, customizes, configures, troubleshoots, tests and optimizes moderate to complex network software and physical infrastructure designs.

Designs and implements network security solutions, including elements such as end user roles and groups, trust relationships, access rights, and directories. Performs VLAN configuration to support the installation and maintenance of services over Internet Protocol (IP) such as audio, video and data. Analyzes network resource utilization and implements solutions to correct problems to ensure all network applications are accessible and functioning properly.

Identifies and recommends appropriate changes to network infrastructure to improve performance, reliability and availability. Develops and recommends procedures for network management, including resource allocation of centralized, decentralized and remote network services. Plans and installs hardware upgrades for network servers, gateways, and associated telecommunication devices.

Identifies and resolves complex network problems; uses network management tools. Ensures network security according to policies and procedures and documents information security processes. Participates in or performs the selection, development, and implementation of backup and recovery solutions.

Tracks network assets. Designs and maintains more complex network architecture, including hubs, routers and physical network as needed. Conducts analysis and participate in implementation planning for new applications as needed.

Conducts analysis in support of data center planning. Provides in-depth support for information security incidents including internal violations, hacker attacks, viruses and system access. Researches and evaluates network and server hardware and software options and upgrades including updates, patches, and service packs.

Leads a network support team as needed. Requirements REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Option I: Graduation from an accredited* college or university with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field and three (3) years of recent** full-time, paid experience in LAN design, configuration, and administration. Option II: One (1) year of experience at the level of Network Systems Administrator II.

Option III: Four years of recent**, progressively responsible*** experience in LAN design, configuration, and administration. You MUST meet the above requirement(s) in order to be appointed to fill any vacancies related to this recruitment. We do not accept password-protected documents.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION: LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. PHYSICAL CLASS: Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

*ACCREDITATION: Accredited institutions are those listed in the publications of regional, national or international accrediting agencies which are accepted by the Department of Human Resources. Publications such as American Universities and Colleges and International Handbook of Universities are acceptable references. Also acceptable, if appropriate, are degrees that have been evaluated and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services(NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc.(AICE)
