Position Summary

Part-time Senior Technical Professional - Weather Radar

KBR is seeking a Part-Time Senior Technical Professional - Weather Radar to provide technical and operational subject matter expertise in weather radar systems, radar data quality, operational meteorology, and environmental observations. The successful candidate will support research, technical assessments, validation methodologies, and development of operational guidance related to weather radar technologies and their application across NOAA, the National Weather Service, and other federal weather and environmental programs. The role will contribute expertise in radar signal processing, radar data quality evaluation, operational forecasting applications, and the assessment of emerging observing capabilities to support scientific, operational, and mission-focused objectives

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in weather radar systems, radar data quality, radar data interpretation, and operational meteorology.
  • Support technical assessments and analyses related to weather radar technologies, environmental observations, and emerging observing capabilities.
  • Assess radar data quality, performance characteristics, limitations, and operational applicability of radar products and observing systems.
  • Provide operational forecasting and weather service mission perspectives to support technical evaluations and solution development.
  • Develop training concepts and materials, reports, presentations, and/or other documentation describing findings, recommendations, and best practices related to weather radar observations and applications.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, meteorologists, and program staff to evaluate technical solutions and support mission-focused objectives for federal customers.
  • Provide technical recommendations regarding radar modernization, operational implementation considerations, and adoption of emerging weather observation capabilities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Physical Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience supporting operational meteorology, weather radar systems, operational forecasting training, or related atmospheric programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of weather radar principles, radar data interpretation, radar signal processing concepts, and radar data quality considerations.
  • Experience evaluating weather radar products, performance characteristics, limitations, and operational applications.
  • Experience supporting weather forecasting, warning operations, environmental monitoring, or related operational decision-support functions.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical training, instructional materials, technical reports, presentations, or other customer-facing documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to scientific, technical, and operational audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in support of federal government programs.

Areas of Desired Experience & Skills

  • Advanced degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Physical Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting operational use, evaluation, modernization, or implementation of weather radar capabilities within a government, research, or operational forecasting environment.
  • Familiarity with mission-critical weather forecasting and warning operations, including application of weather radar data to support operational decision making.
  • Experience collaborating with scientific research, engineering, and operational stakeholders to transition new capabilities into operational use.

Basic Compensation:

Jobs on this contract range from156,000.00- 233,900.00. Pay range is specific to the USA nationalarea.

The offered rate will be based on the position, contract affordability, the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
