Experienced Community Habilitation (Com Hab) Staff – NYC & Long Island

Hourly Rate: $30–$32/hr (Based on Individual’s Self-Direction Budget)
Locations: Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn & Long Island, NY

We are seeking experienced and reliable Community Habilitation (Com Hab) staff to work with teenagers and young adults with developmental disabilities through the OPWDD Self-Direction program in New York State.

We are currently hiring for multiple individuals and are especially looking for staff with experience in:

  • American Sign Language (ASL) (Queens Location)

  • (Brooklyn Location) - Experience with Autism 

  • (Middletown, New York) - Experience with Autism

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide person-centered, one-on-one support in the home or community

  • Implement activities aligned with the individual's Community Habilitation Plan

  • Support daily living skills, socialization, safety awareness, and community inclusion

  • Use communication strategies such as ASL, AAC devices, or gestures based on the individual’s needs

  • Engage in interest-based activities (e.g., basketball, digital art, music, or design)

  • Ensure the individual’s safety, comfort, and dignity at all times

  • Document sessions in accordance with OPWDD and program guidelines

Requirements:

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (autism experience strongly preferred)

  • Fluency or working knowledge of ASL is highly desirable

  • Background in sports, recreation, or creative arts is a plus

  • High school diploma or GED required; relevant college coursework is preferred

  • Ability to work independently and professionally

  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel to service locations in Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island

  • This position does NOT support visa sponsorship programs

Compensation:

  • $30–$32 per hour, based on the individual’s approved Self-Direction budget

  • Flexible, part-time hours tailored to the individual’s schedule

Employment Details:

  • Hired staff will be employed through the individual’s Fiscal Intermediary (FI) as part of the NYS OPWDD Self-Direction program

  • Staff must complete all required onboarding, training, and background checks as required by the Fiscal Intermediary
