Job Duties

The Danville Science Center is seeking a dynamic and energetic part-time Museum Generalist to be a vital part of our guest experience team.
In this exciting and multifaceted role, you will deliver high-quality customer service and represent our brand with enthusiasm. Responsibilities include engaging visitors through exhibit interpretation, assisting with hands-on STEM programs, outreach events, birthday parties, and special events. You will also provide guest services support, operate the Dome theater console, assist in the museum gift shop, help maintain the Butterfly Station, and take on other tasks aligned with the museum's mission and strategic goals.

Please note that this is a part-time position and will be scheduled for 20-25 hours a week but no more than a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided. Interested candidates must apply at https://jobs.virginia.gov .

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to implement STEM education in informal settings or possess equivalent training and experience. Strong customer service skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, and be proficient with Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, and Excel. Candidates must be self-starters capable of working independently with minimal supervision, as well as effectively engaging with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The role requires confident and dynamic presentation skills in both one-on-one and group settings, with the ability to deliver content in an engaging and energetic manner. Extensive customer service experience and/or training, as well as experience in cash handling and/or retail sales. The candidate should possess strong organizational skills and the ability to accurately manage money and inventory with accountability. Must be able to work the weekend (Sunday shifts required), holidays and occasional evenings depending on museum programming and events.

Additional Considerations

Museum experience and an interest in science and/or experience in K-12 science education is a plus. Experience working with children of various ages. ASL or Spanish language competencies is a plus.
