Lima/Wapakoneta - Part Time Teacher

Sylvan Learning of Lima and Wapakoneta is a locally owned learning center serving a diverse group of K-12 students. We offer a warm, nurturing environment where students with a wide range of needs meet their educational goals. Our part-time instructors are the key to our success. We offer flexible schedules and participation in a vibrant learning community. You get to focus on the students. We handle all the parent communication, customer service, marketing and scheduling, leaving you free to do what you do best: Teach!
Essential Job Functions:
  • Greets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each student
  • Manages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session
  • Evaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment
  • Uses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn
  • Motivates students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements according to the Sylvan instructional management standards
  • Manages the conclusion of each instructional session and manages the completion of learning log and transition activities
  • Communicates specific student needs to Center staff
  • Attends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needed
  • Completes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students
  • KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Language Arts Tutors:
  • Four-year degree or equivalent required
  • Teaching credential (current or expired) strongly preferred
  • Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers

Math Tutors:
  • Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college level math

Science Tutors:
  • Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 2 or more years of college level science

Test Prep Tutors:
  • Four-year degree or equivalent preferred
  • Strong academic credentials required

Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible
  • Strong problem solving and customer service skills
  • Strong team player

Locations:
  • Lima and Wapakoneta

Schedule and Compensation:
We offer instruction in person M-TH from 9am-2pm, 4-8pm, Friday 9am-2pm 4-6pm and Sat. from 8am-12pm. During the summer we also have instruction M-F 9-1pm (No ,Saturday instruction in the summer). We are looking for tutors who are available for some or all of these hours! Salary: $14-16 per/hour.
