Part-time School Psychologist

Gilmour Academy

The School Psychologist is committed to the application of professional expertise for promoting improvement in the quality of each students academic, social, and emotional life at Gilmour Academy. The School Psychologists main priority is to ensure that each student may learn and flourish academically, socially, and emotionally in a nurturing and responsive environment with the support of learning enhancement teams in each division.

The School Psychologist also supports students by providing academic and behavioral intervention and/or consultation; teacher support in their efforts to advance students with different learning needs within the classroom; and works with parents, students, faculty, and outside professionals in order to better support students with different learning styles.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Establishing protocol, programming, and guidelines for all learning support programs throughout all three divisions.

  • Coordinating educational screening/assessment services in-house and making referrals for outside evaluation.

  • Collaborating with local school districts throughout the special education process, including testing and data collection for ETRs and IEPs.

  • Coordinating and collaborating with all outside services providers, including Jon Peterson scholarship providers, academic tutors, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and psychologists. Ensuring that all on-campus support from outside services is properly vetted and appropriate background paperwork has been submitted.

  • Conducting a welcoming, inclusive and legally sound, interactive process with families seeking accommodations.

  • Providing formal and informal student assessments to assess levels of functioning and progress.

  • Collect and analyze academic data to make student service decisions in collaboration with team, teachers, administrators, families.

  • Assist families with the evaluation process/creating support plans for individual students based on evaluation results.-

  • Communicate through weekly meetings with director and counselor to address student concerns.

  • Consultations with teachers and families.

  • Create behavioral and academic interventions.

  • Assist the counseling team in providing individual and group counseling.

  • Consultations and collaboration with teachers and families.

  • Crisis prevention and management.

  • Mental health/behavioral/academic interventions.

  • Instructional support.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field.

  • Valid State of Ohio School Psychologist certification.

  • Must demonstrate mastery of all areas of a school psychologist and be computer literate.

  • Must demonstrate a strong understanding of local, regional, State and Federal resources that support families, students and school institutions.

  • Successful completion of federal and state criminal background checks

  • Ability to work well under pressure as well as effectively prioritize and execute tasks to meet deadlines consistently

  • Ability to use discretion in managing confidential information

  • High quality written and verbal communication skills
