Job description

Part-Time School/Activity Bus Driver

Matthews–Mint Hill Area | Starting August 19, 2026

Sunny Days After School is looking for a dependable and caring part-time bus driver to join our team for the upcoming school year.

Sunny Days is a local childcare and after-school program serving families in the Matthews and Mint Hill communities. We provide morning transportation and afternoon pickup for children attending:

  • Queens Grant Community School
  • Matthews Charter Academy
  • Mint Hill Elementary School
  • Bain Elementary School

This position is ideal for an experienced driver looking for a consistent, long-term, part-time schedule. Retired school transportation professionals and drivers who enjoy working with children are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

The position involves a split morning and afternoon schedule, with approximately up to three hours of driving per school day:

  • Morning transportation generally begins around 6:45 a.m. and ends around 8:00 a.m.
  • Afternoon hours will vary depending on the assigned school route.
  • Drivers should be flexible, as routes and schedules may occasionally change.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport children to and from their assigned schools.
  • Follow all transportation and child-safety procedures.
  • Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain a safe, calm, and welcoming environment for children on the bus.
  • Communicate promptly with Sunny Days regarding any transportation concerns or delays.

Requirements

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License
  • Passenger endorsement
  • Current DOT medical card
  • Clean and safe driving record
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Dependable, punctual, and safety-focused
  • Previous experience driving a school bus or transporting children is preferred

The driver will operate a full-size, 72-passenger yellow activity bus. The number of children transported will vary depending on the assigned route.

This is a year-round, long-term part-time position. Pay is hourly, paid every two weeks, and will be competitive based on experience.

There may also be opportunities for additional hours at Sunny Days for candidates who are interested, but this is not required.

We would love to hear from someone who is dependable, enjoys working with children, and wants to become part of the Sunny Days community.
