What is a part time sales rep?

Part time sales reps are employees who work less than the standard full-time hours and are responsible for selling products or services to customers. They may work in retail stores, over the phone, or in the field, and their primary goal is to drive sales and meet targets set by their employer. Part time sales reps often assist customers, answer questions, process transactions, and maintain product displays. Their schedules are typically flexible, making the role appealing for students, parents, or those seeking supplemental income.

What are some strategies for balancing part-time sales responsibilities with other commitments?

As a part-time Sales Rep, effective time management is key to balancing work with school, family, or another job. Most part-time positions offer flexible scheduling, but you'll need to prioritize lead follow-ups and meeting sales targets within limited hours. Staying organized—such as maintaining a clear calendar and using CRM tools—can help you maximize productivity during your shifts. Proactive communication with your manager and team ensures you stay aligned with goals and receive support as needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time sales rep, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Sales Rep, you need strong communication, customer service, and basic sales skills, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. These skills and qualities are crucial for consistently meeting sales targets and providing a positive customer experience in a dynamic retail environment.

Job description

About Ridwell
Ridwell is a service that inspires people to create a future without waste. Today, we make it easy to reuse and recycle more by identifying recyclable and reusable items that the city doesn't collect through both our doorstep pickup and mail-in services, connecting those materials with local and national partners that can use them sustainably. Our future plans go much further and include making zero waste a reality for millions.

As a B Corp-certified company, sustainability isn't just a company value—it's a fundamental part of our purpose and interests. Our mission is to empower communities to waste less, and every success our team celebrates means more waste saved from the landfill and more valuable donations in the hands of local non-profits.

This is a pivotal moment of growth for Ridwell. We're looking for people who are energized by a challenging, fast-paced environment, ready to make a real impact on a mission that matters, and excited to grow alongside a team that's genuinely invested in one another!

As a Field Sales Representative, you are the face of Ridwell, a brand ambassador educating and informing homeowners about our mission and services. This position is ideal for someone energized by meaningful conversations and looking for a role outside a traditional office setting. If you have experience in political canvassing, solar sales, or a similar field, you might be a great fit!

This is a great, flexible opportunity for motivated people—including college students—who want to gain sales experience, build communication skills, and earn money on a flexible schedule. You’ll learn alongside some of our strongest sales reps on a collaborative team that shares strategies, gives feedback, and helps each other get better.

Compensation: $21.30 per hour plus commission

Total Earnings: $38+ per hour for reps meeting or exceeding quota

Our Values

  • We Are Stronger Together. Every person is critical to our success. We need diverse perspectives to execute on creative solutions. By fostering collaboration and connection at every level, we can be phenomenal.
Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Sales: Engage in door-to-door sales within assigned neighborhoods to drive subscriptions to Ridwell's service.
  • Customer Engagement & Brand Representation: Communicate clearly and honestly with homeowners about Ridwell’s mission, service, and benefits. Answer questions and represent Ridwell professionally in every interaction.
  • Goal Achievement: Work independently to consistently meet daily and weekly sales targets. Expected sales quota after training period is one new member every 1 hour 40 minutes.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of interactions, appointments, and customer feedback using company-provided tools.
  • Team Collaboration: Attend and actively contribute to team meetings and training sessions, staying updated on sales techniques and product developments.
  • Brand Representation: Uphold Ridwell’s values and professional image in all interactions with potential customers.
Qualifications and Requirements:
You are a motivated and driven individual with a positive outlook and a passion for engaging with people face-to-face. You have a competitive spirit, get satisfaction from achieving your goals, are quick on your feet and see challenges as opportunities for growth.
  • Sales Experience: Prior experience and success in door-to-door or direct sales preferred.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to read people and adjust your approach.
  • Self-management: Ability to manage your time, stay organized, and consistently work toward sales targets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Coachable, receptive to feedback, and motivated to continually improve your sales skills.
  • Passion for Sustainability: A genuine interest in environmental sustainability and recycling.
