Part Time Safety Manager information

What is the difference between Part Time Safety Manager vs Part Time Safety Coordinator?

AspectPart Time Safety ManagerPart Time Safety Coordinator
CertificationsOSHA 30-Hour or 10-Hour, relevant safety certificationsOSHA 10-Hour, safety training certifications
Work EnvironmentOversees safety policies, manages safety programs, interacts with managementAssists in safety inspections, implements safety procedures, supports safety initiatives
Employer UsageUsed in larger organizations with formal safety management systemsCommon in smaller companies or specific projects requiring safety support

While both roles focus on safety, the Part Time Safety Manager typically has broader responsibilities, including policy development and management oversight, whereas the Part Time Safety Coordinator mainly supports safety implementation and compliance tasks. The choice depends on the organization's size and safety program complexity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time safety manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Safety Manager, you need solid knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, risk assessment, and incident investigation, often supported by a degree in safety management or a related field. Familiarity with safety management systems (SMS), OSHA standards, and certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) are commonly required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and leadership skills help you effectively promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance. These skills are essential for identifying hazards, preventing accidents, and maintaining a safe work environment even with limited hours on site.

What is a part time safety manager?

Part time safety managers are professionals responsible for overseeing workplace safety procedures and compliance, but they work fewer hours than a full-time manager—often on a flexible or as-needed basis. Their duties typically include conducting safety audits, training staff on safety protocols, ensuring compliance with regulations, and responding to incidents. Because they work part-time, their role may be focused on specific projects, providing expertise to small organizations, or supplementing an existing safety team. This arrangement can be ideal for companies that need safety oversight but don't require a full-time position.

How does a part time safety manager typically balance their responsibilities across multiple sites or shifts?

Part-time Safety Managers often coordinate their schedules to visit multiple sites or oversee different shifts, prioritizing areas with the highest risk or most urgent needs. They rely on strong communication with site supervisors and use digital reporting tools to stay updated on safety concerns or incidents when not physically present. This role requires effective time management and the ability to quickly assess compliance and training needs during limited hours. Building relationships with on-site staff is key to ensuring ongoing safety practices between visits.

Job description

Company Overview:
Strive Pharmacy is a personalized compounding pharmacy built on a simple conviction: medicine should fit the patient, not the other way around. We started Strive because we believed the pharmaceutical industry was overdue for a more human approach-one that prioritizes individualized care, clinical nuance, and genuine partnership with patients and providers.
Compounding gives us the tools to do that. Every formulation we prepare is built to the specific needs of a specific person, and every interaction we have is guided by that same commitment to personalized care.
We're growing, and we're looking for people who share that conviction. If you're ready to be part of a pharmacy that takes the work seriously and the people even more seriously, we'd like to meet you.
Mission:
Strive exists to disrupt an industry long overdue for a more personal approach to care. We put the human element at the center of everything: every formulation, every patient interaction, every provider partnership. We're not just a compounding pharmacy. We're a team on a mission to change what personalized healthcare looks and feels like.
Position Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Wednesdays 10:30pm - 7:00am
Location: Alachua, FL
Position Overview:
The EHS Technician is a direct, in-house employee dedicated exclusively to the safety, security, and compliance of Strive's premises. This is strictly an unarmed position at all times; no firearms or weapons are permitted on duty. The primary function of this role is to act as a visible deterrent, observe the facility, report anomalies or safety risks, and coordinate emergency responses. Personnel in this role will utilize verbal de-escalation techniques to resolve conflicts but will have absolutely no authority to physically intervene, restrain, or detain individuals. The Technician will conduct continuous facility patrols, monitor life safety systems, audit contractor safety, and serve as the 24/7 focal point for critical utility reporting and emergency response.
Key Responsibilities:
Core Responsibilities & Duties
  • Continuously monitor the facility and grounds to identify safety risks, unauthorized access, or policy violations.
  • Act exclusively in an observe-and-report capacity during security or safety incidents.
  • Utilize approved verbal de-escalation techniques to diffuse tense situations and gain voluntary compliance from employees or visitors.
  • Adhere strictly to the mandate that this role does not possess-and must never exercise-the authority to physically intervene, restrain, or temporarily detain any employee, visitor, or intruder.
  • CCTV & Access Control: Perform active CCTV monitoring and routine historical footage review (via CCURE/BMS platforms) to identify security vulnerabilities, safety violations, or unauthorized access.
  • 24/7 BMS & Utility Monitoring: Act as the primary after-hours and active-shift monitor for the Building Management System (BMS). Respond to and report alarms related to HVAC failures, cleanroom pressure differential drops, and temperature/humidity excursions.
  • Contractor Safety Reporting: Act as the EHS "boots on the ground" for contractor oversight. Audit contractor compliance regarding required PPE, Safe Work Permits (e.g., Confined Space, Hot Work, LOTO), and report safety deviations or "near misses" immediately

Controlled Substance Security & EHS Compliance
  • Monitor access to high-security areas, including Schedule III controlled substance zones, ensuring strict adherence to Strive's documented security plans and DEA registration protocols.
  • Conduct routine safety walkthroughs to identify and mitigate environmental, health, and safety hazards.
  • Ensure daily operations comply with internal loss prevention policies.
  • Diesel Tank Inspections: Conduct routine checks and log fuel levels for the facility's emergency backup generator diesel tanks to ensure 24/7 readiness in the event of power loss.

Emergency Coordination
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for coordinating with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical responders when incidents escalate beyond verbal resolution, require physical intervention, or involve medical emergencies.
  • Emergency Action Plan (EAP) Coordinator: Serve as the designated on-site incident coordinator during medical emergencies, fire alarms, or chemical spills, guiding first responders to the scene and facilitating building evacuations.
  • Assist in executing facility evacuation and emergency response procedures.
  • Document all incidents, hazards, and daily activities in detailed, objective shift reports.

Qualifications:
Mandatory Legal & Safety Requirements
  • Unarmed Status: Must strictly comply with the requirement that this role is 100% unarmed at all times. The carrying of firearms or any other weapons while on duty is explicitly prohibited.
  • W-2 Status: Must remain a direct employee of Strive, working exclusively on Strive premises or in direct connection with Strive's business operations.

Training & Certification
  • Must successfully complete and maintain certification in Strive's comprehensive internal security and EHS training program, which includes:
    • Legal authority and limitations of the role (Observe & Report mandate).
    • Verbal de-escalation tactics and conflict resolution.
    • Strict boundaries regarding the use of force and prohibition of physical intervention.
    • Emergency response, evacuation procedures, and first aid/CPR.
    • DEA protocols and controlled substance access monitoring.

Experience & Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; further education in criminal justice, occupational health and safety, or a related field is a plus.
  • Exceptional verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to remain calm and de-escalate high-stress situations.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and objective incident reports.

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in loss prevention, safety compliance, or an observe-and-report security role is preferred.

Work Environment:
This position is primarily based in an onsite work environment. The role requires regular periods of sitting, standing, and computer use, with occasional lifting as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Join Us in Making an Impact:
At Strive, the work is real and the impact is direct. Every role here contributes to a patient experience that's more personal, more attentive, and more human than what most people have come to expect from a pharmacy. Apply today and help us raise the bar.
Benefits/ Perks:
Strive Pharmacy offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
  • Employer-paid healthcare coverage, effective the 1st day of the following month of your hire date
  • Free Strive compounded medications for employees based on a valid patient-specific prescription from a licensed healthcare provider

  • FSA and HSA options
  • Parental leave
  • 401(k) with employer matching
  • Life insurance
