  • THIS IS FOR A PART TIME CHARGE NURSE 
    Registered Nurse
    3 East Medical Surgical
    Job Location: Lubbock, TX
    Shift: 7p-7a
    Status: Part time
    Description
    3 East is a 35 bed Medical Surgical floor with emphasis on the adult surgical patient.  Patients are received primarily from the Emergency Center, Trauma & Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and Burn Unit.  Nurses provide pre-op and post-op nursing care for general surgery, neurosurgery, urology, trauma, burn and bariatric services.  3 East is a dynamic, exciting and fast-paced floor with an exceptional team who works to care for the patient as if they were their own family member. 
    ORIENTATION
     
    • UMC General Hospital Orientation
    • UMC General Nursing Orientation
    • Electronic Documentation Training
    Individualized Unit Specific Orientation
     
    • Unit specific orientation is in addition to UMC’s General Hospital Orientation and General Nursing Orientation.
    • Orientation consists of observation, classroom, and clinical hours over a 6-8 week period.
    • Medical Surgical classroom orientation takes place over 2 days. 
    • During clinical orientation you will be paired with an experienced nurse preceptor.  The preceptor is chosen to best fit your personality and learning style.
    • Clinical orientation is conducted on the shift the nurse is hired for.
    • You will have many opportunities for professional growth and advancement. Committee involvement by staff nurses is encouraged in order to improve patient care and processes with input from front line staff.  Committees are available at a unit level as well as hospital wide. Other opportunities include: mentoring and self scheduling to meet individual needs.
    Qualifications
     
    • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
    • Valid Texas Nursing License required
    • Current CPR certification from American Heart Association
    • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills
    • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
    • Ability to perform work that requires walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional lifting or patients with assistance is required.

  • Environmental / Working Conditions
    • Works in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs in the department as prescribed by the philosophy of the hospital. May work units other than the assigned one with orientation. Exposure to blood borne pathogens is high risk.
  • Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
    • This position requires close interaction with other ancillary departments in order to facilitate a quality multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Job Description
    • Gives professional nursing care to patients and provides supervision and guidance to other members of the nursing staff. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and has a current license from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Experience in general nursing desired.
  • Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
    • Current license from Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Physical Capabilities
    • Work is of medium demand; walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional lifting or patients with assistance is required. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Talking and hearinig is essential in instructing and supervising nursing personnel and in receiving doctor's orders and patient's condition reports. Near visual acuity required to work with charts and records and to observe patients.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Knows clinical and nursing standards and practices in accordance with them. Special interest in scientific and technical activities for understanding and responding to nursing problems and concepts. All nurses will be required to show current knowledge and clinical competence of the special skills required to give quality care to patients on their unit. Age specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patients' care.
