About this position

The Childbirth Educator is or will become nationally certified in childbirth education and provides formalized patient and family education related to childbearing and newborn care to achieve desired patient and family outcomes. Their talents as facilitator, teacher, and advocate are applied to creating effective learning environments, individualized learning encounters, and utilizing resources to meet the learning needs of patients and their families which may include neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults. The Childbirth Educator collaborates to accomplish the Patient/Family education goals within the context of Maple Grove Hospital and according to established standards, policies and guidelines. Actively and consistently demonstrates the mission, vision, values and guiding principles of Maple Grove Hospital.

Requirements

Education

Continuing education related to childbirth and childbirth education.   

Experience

2+ years of current/prior teaching experience; demonstrated competencies of a certified childbirth educator required.
Proficient PC skills using Microsoft applications, Internet, etc.
Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information (both in written and oral form), clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience.
Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict in a positive manner. Has an awareness of, responds to, and considers the needs, feelings and capabilities of others.
Ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English. Breastfeeding education experience.
Labor and delivery experience as RN (2 years).  

Licensure/Certification

Nationally certified childbirth educator with certification from a recognized institute required (e.g. Lamaze, ICEA, Bradley, etc.) If not certified in this area, must complete certification within one year of start date in position.
Current BLS certification required.

Weekend Requirement: Availability for one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) class per month and weeknight classes as well.

Salary Range: P15 ($37.97 - $56.95), based on experience
