PeaceHealth is seeking a RN Charge Nurse for our Labor & Delivery Unit here at Riverbend! We are a High Risk Perinatal Center for the greater Eugene area:

  • Part Time, 0.75 FTE, Night Shift position
  • Designated Charge Pay: $6/hour
  • Night Shift Differential: $9.50/hour
  • The base salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $49.30 – $77.46.

Job Summary

The Charge Nurse is a frontline leader who works under the direction of the Manager/Director. The Charge Nurse assists the Manager/Director in coordinating unit activities which assure safe and clinically effective patient care. The Charge Nurse supports and directs staff members in providing compassionate care and services to patients and families from diverse ethnic and social groups. Independent decision-making is expected in the execution of routine duties.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate patient care by shift and department.
  • Supervision and assessment of clinical practice. Direct and delegate to other team members.
  • Coach for performance to achieve individual and organizational goals; including orientation, competencies and evaluations.
  • Develop the departmental team and collaborative relationships to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Serve as a clinical and resource expert for the department.
  • Articulate shift/team operational issues to management as appropriate.
  • Appropriate stewardship of resources.
  • Adapts decision-making style to the situation and level of authority for achieving an optimal outcome including using collaborative decision making and effective communication skills.
  • Identify and apply opportunities for clinical practice improvement and support them with staff.
  • Ensure professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Degree from an accredited School of Nursing Required
  • BSN required within 36 months of hire

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience required
  • 3 years Preferred

Credentials

  • Required: State of Oregon nursing license
  • Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within 6 months.
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring AWHONN (EFM) required within 6 months.

Department / Location Specific Notes

Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend:

  • BSN required within 36 months from the start date of the Charge Nurse role.
  • Nurses may be able to work in another nursing unit if they have completed the necessary CareConnect training, unit-specific competencies, and have been deemed competent by a leader of the unit they are floating to (including, but not limited to the unit manager, assistant nurse manager, or clinical nurse educator).

Labor & Delivery - Labor & Delivery:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within 6 months.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring AWHONN (EFM) required within 6 months.

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
