About our opportunity
We are hiring a part-time (24 hours weekly), non-exempt Assistant Park Ranger to work at Catawba Bend Preserve. The purpose of this position is to ensure the parks are safe, clean, and well maintained for the enjoyment of campers, boaters, & day use visitors.
Projected Salary Range/Pay Grade 107: $16.95 - $20.34, Salary is determined based on qualifications.
Work Schedule: 24 hours weekly to cover operation needs. Park Hoursare: Friday 7AM-6PM, Saturday 7AM-6PM, Sunday 7AM-6PM, and Monday 7AM-6PM

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Constant monitoring of Park Property for safety hazards.
• Driving between County parks including but not limited to Allison Creek and Ebenezer is required. At times may need to drive a county truck to collect trash if our equipment needs to be serviced.
• Responds to unexpected problems with electrical and or water systems and repair. Removes downed limbs, leaves and debris.
• Removes trash and debris from parks using various equipment to assist.
• Providing information to visitors on topics such as fish, wildlife, boating, local history and geography.
• Enforces Park rules and regulations such as length of stay, no alcohol and dog leash requirements to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
• Performs clerical work such as answering and returning phone calls, registering campers, assisting with camping and shelter reservations, and collecting fees from day area/ boat ramp users.
• Assists with traffic control measures during peak seasons.
• Performs janitorial duties in public restroom facilities.
• Performs related work as assigned.

About you
Minimum Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• One (1) year of related experience preferred.

Certifications and Licenses:

• Valid driver's license is required.
• CPR certification, First Aid Certification, BBP certification, AED Certification required.

***Part-Time Employee Benefits A regular part-time employee is an employee, who has completed six months of satisfactory service, works less than 30 hours per week and by agreement with York County is not a temporary position but fills a regular part-time position. Part-time employees receive retirement benefits through PEBA (South Carolina Retirement Systems) and membership in the South Carolina Retirement System is mandatory for county employees. Annual Leave Probationary and part-time county employees that work at least 20 hours per week accrue annual leave with pay. Employees in their new hire six (6) month probationary period shall not be able to use annual leave until they become regular county employees. Employees who are separating from county service shall be paid for all accrued, unused annual leave up to 360 hours provided they give York County as the employer the proper notice as required. Employees in their six (6) month New-Hire probationary period who are terminated or separated from employment shall not be paid for accrued annual leave. The maximum amount of annual leave carried into each calendar year is 360 hours.
Earning Rate for Part-Time Employees
Part-time employees who are scheduled to work twenty (20) to twenty-nine (29) hours per week will earn 4.0 hours of annual leave for each month of service during a twelve-month period
Parental LeaveEmployees that have been employed at least 12 months with the county may be eligible for up to 30 days of parental leave immediately following the birth, adoption or placement of a legal dependent child.Bereavement Leave Three (3) days of bereavement leave for the death of an immediate family member, which includes a spouse, parent, grandparent or child.
Sick Leave Part-time and probationary county employees may be entitled to earn sick leave with pay. Temporary employees will not accrue sick leave time. Employees may accrue up to 1,440 hours of sick leave. Upon termination of employment with the County, employees may not be reimbursed for any unused sick leave. When a paid holiday occurs while an employee is on sick leave with pay, the day may not be charged as sick leave.
Earning Rate of Sick Leave Part-time employees that work twenty (20) to twenty-nine (29) hours per week earn paid sick leave at a rate of 4 hours per month. Part-time employees who work less than twenty (20) hours per week will not earn sick leave.
Paid Holiday's for regular part-time employees who work more than 20 hours per week. The following days may be observed as paid holidays for York County Employees: January - December: 3 Optional Holidays per Calendar Year

Longevity Allowance Full-time regular county employees, elected officials, appointed officials, and judges with ten or more years of full time continuous governmental service are eligible to receive a monthly longevity allowance in addition to their regular compensation. Continuous service transferred from employment with another county, municipality, state or a political entity created by the State may contribute toward eligibility for the longevity allowance. Longevity allowances are paid according to the following schedule.
