The "Unicorn" Opportunity
Most part-time jobs are just a paycheck. This is a career-grade side hustle. We are a small, owner-operated team in the Smash My Trash family, and we are looking for a reliable Driver/Mechanic who treats our trucks like their own.
If you are a retired heavy-equipment op, a talented hobbyist mechanic, or a professional tech looking for more autonomy and fewer "corporate" headaches, we want to talk.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Exceptional Benefits: Rare for part-time! We offer Paid Time Off (PTO), Paid Holidays, and a Company 401k Plan.
- The "Satisfaction" Factor: You’re operating one of the most powerful machines in the waste industry. There is nothing more satisfying than a "Good Smash."
- No Corporate Red Tape: Work directly with the owners. We value your expertise and don't micromanage.
- OT Available: While this role is not currently full-time hours, hours worked beyond 8 in a shift are paid as OT.
- Growth Opportunity: Although part-time now, we plan to transition this role into a full time position as we continue to grow.
What You’ll Be Doing
- The Drive: Safely navigate and operate our high-powered compaction trucks at client sites across the SGV and Inland Empire.
- The Wrenching: Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on the trucks’ chassis’ and on the smash machines (hydraulics, electrical troubleshooting, etc.).
- Pride in the Rig: You are responsible for keeping your truck clean and neat. This includes regular washing—performed either at our storage facilities or at self-service wash stations—and maintaining a professional, organized cab.
- Mobile Maintenance: Work is performed outdoors at our storage locations. We provide the tools; you provide the "keep-it-running" attitude.
Requirements (The Must-Haves)
- Mechanical Skill: Comfortable with auto/truck maintenance, simple repairs, hydraulics, basic electrical, and standard shop tools. You should be able to troubleshoot issues independently.
- Professional Standards: You take pride in your equipment. "Clean and organized" is your default setting.
- Reliability: You must have reliable transportation to get to the trucks and a proven track record of showing up on time.
- Flexibility: Availability for some evenings and weekends is required, as this is a primary window for fleet maintenance.
- Physicality: Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, rain, etc.).
- Communication: Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is a major plus.
- Credentials: Clean driving record required; CDL is preferred but not required.
Safety & Compliance
To ensure the safety of our team and clients, all candidates must pass:
- Pre-employment Physical
- Drug Screening
- Criminal Background Check
Location: Serving San Gabriel Valley & Inland Empire
Pay: $25-$30/hr Base Hourly + 50% for OT hours (DOE)
Schedule: 20–25 hours/week | 3–5 days (may include some weekends & evenings)
