As of Jul 4, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time retired in Indiana is $23.59, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.66 and $27.45 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What types of part-time roles are most suitable for retired professionals, and how do these positions typically structure work hours?

Many retired professionals find part-time roles that leverage their previous experience, such as consulting, mentoring, or administrative support, to be especially rewarding. These positions often offer flexible scheduling, allowing retirees to balance work with personal activities or travel. Work hours are commonly structured as a few days per week or shorter daily shifts, and remote or project-based opportunities are increasingly available. Employers value the expertise of retired professionals, making it easier to find roles that match both skill set and desired flexibility.

What does it mean to have a part-time job as a retired person?

A part-time job for a retired person typically means working fewer hours per week than a full-time position, often in a more flexible or less demanding role. Many retirees choose part-time work to stay active, supplement their retirement income, or pursue interests they couldn't while working full-time. These jobs can range from consulting or mentoring in their previous field to roles in retail, education, or volunteering. Part-time employment can provide social engagement, mental stimulation, and additional financial security without the commitment of a full-time job.

What are good side jobs for retirees?

Part-time retirees often choose side jobs such as retail associate, tutor, pet sitter, or administrative assistant, which typically offer flexible hours and require minimal training. These roles can utilize existing skills, provide supplemental income, and allow retirees to stay active and engaged in the community.

What's the best part-time job for a retired person?

Part-time jobs suitable for retired individuals include positions such as retail associate, administrative assistant, or customer service representative, which often offer flexible hours and require minimal prior experience. These roles typically involve basic skills like communication, organization, and computer use, making them accessible for many retirees seeking supplemental income or social engagement.

Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management tools, and basic computer applications is typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and teamwork help you stand out in this customer-facing role. These skills are crucial for providing positive shopping experiences, efficient transactions, and supporting store operations effectively.

What is the best job to do after retirement?

For retired individuals, part-time jobs such as retail associate, administrative assistant, or tutor are popular options. These roles often require minimal training, flexible hours, and can leverage existing skills or hobbies, making them suitable for a smooth transition into post-retirement work.

Day in the life of our Caregivers...
-Companionship is the core of what we do, caregivers are just that, companions. When they first arrive, they might do a safety check, help prepare meals, or pick out clothes for the day. They help with ensuring the senior is bathed, dressed, and ready to go for their day. They help the senior with safe mobility around their home and in public outings and also remind our senior to take their medications. Overall, you are their friend that drops by to play games, runs errands, clean up, and someone who genuinely tries to make them smile. Some of our companion Caregivers have certifications and licenses such as RN, LPN, CMA, CNA, HHA, or PCA, but they are not required.
People who make great Caregivers...
-If you have experience caring for a family member or have been a full-time parent or homemaker, you can be a great Caregiver. If you worked in an assisted living facility, Skilled Nursing, Senior Home, or Senior Center as a Caretaker, you are just who we need. If you have been a teacher, child care worker, or you're retired and want to give back, apply now!
