Position Summary

East Palo Alto Tennis & Tutoring (EPATT) is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Grant Writer & Fundraising Assistant to support our growing development efforts. This part-time position will play a key role in securing philanthropic support through grant writing, prospect research, database management, and fundraising operations.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer, strong project manager, and self-starter who is passionate about educational equity and youth development. This position reports to the Development Director and works closely with the Executive Director and program staff.
Program Mission: 
Using one-on-one academic tutoring, tennis instruction, parent education, mentoring, and enrichment activities, EPATT strives to impact students academically, athletically and socially to ensure each one is prepared for college and career.  
Key Responsibilities
Grant Writing & Foundation Relations (50%)
  • Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding requests.
  • Prepare grant reports, progress updates, and stewardship materials.
  • Track grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and application calendars.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather data, outcomes, stories, and budget information.
  • Maintain grant files and records.
Fundraising & Donor Support (20%)
  • Assist with donor stewardship efforts, including acknowledgment letters and donor communications.
  • Conduct prospect research on individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Support implementation of major gift and annual giving strategies.
  • Assist with fundraising campaigns and special projects.
Development Operations (20%)
  • Maintain donor and grant records in the Bloomerang CRM donor database.
  • Generate reports and track fundraising metrics.
  • Assist with gift processing and donor acknowledgments.
  • Help maintain development calendars and project timelines.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping and data integrity.

Events & Administrative Support (10%)
  • Assist with fundraising events, donor tours, and stewardship activities.
  • Prepare event materials, sponsorship packets, and follow-up communications.
  • Provide general administrative support for the development team as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Must have 2+ years of experience in grant writing and fundraising.
  • Excellent written, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience conducting online research and synthesizing information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with donor databases/CRMs preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful track record in writing winning grant proposals and reports.
  • Experience working in education, youth development, or nonprofit organizations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with donor stewardship and fundraising best practices.
  • Experience with Canva, Constant Contact, Salesforce, Bloomerang, or similar platforms.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Part-time position: approximately 20-25 hours per week.
  • Hybrid, flexible schedule, with occasional evening or weekend events. 
  • Must be on-site in East Palo Alto, CA, at least one day a week.
  • Hourly rate: $36-$42 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Within the first 30 days, you've mastered EPATT's program data, impact stories, and budget structures well enough to write compelling, accurate grant proposals without heavy back-and-forth with program staff.
  • Grant deadlines are never missed, the Bloomerang database stays clean and current, and funders consistently receive timely, polished reports that strengthen — not just maintain — the relationship.
  • Foundation and donor relationships deepen over time: proposals get funded, reports lead to renewed or increased gifts, and the Development Director can rely on you to spot opportunities and manage details independently.
