Job description

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a part-time Clinical Research Assistant to assist the Myers' lab in an Observational, Non-Interventional Study.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Jonathan Myers, the Research Assistant will perform cardiopulmonary exercise testing, enrolling participants, and collecting data. Dr. Myers is a Health Research Scientist at the Palo Alto VA Health Care System and a Clinical Professor at Stanford University.
This is a part-time position (10-12 hours/week), located in Palo Alto, CA.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support cardiopulmonary exercise testing in accordance with study protocols.
  • Participate in screening, consenting, and enrolling study participants under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and research team.
  • Collect and document data from the Prolaio device during participant visits.
  • Observe and monitor study participants throughout the 5-7-day study period, reporting concerns or protocol deviations to the research team.
  • Help prepare, maintain, and submit IRB protocols, amendments, and continuing reviews as needed.
  • Contribute to literature reviews, manuscript preparation, and editing activities.
  • Maintain study databases and coordinate with sponsors and research services regarding study updates and regulatory requirements;
  • Perform data entry, data management, quality control activities, and maintain accurate electronic study records.
  • Coordinate study-related administrative and organizational activities in support of the Principal Investigator.
  • Provide day-to-day support to research staff, students, and volunteers by sharing study procedures and protocol requirements under the direction of the PI or senior research personnel.
  • Participate in research team meetings, training activities, and other project-related initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience);
  • Experience working in a clinical, healthcare, or research environment (can include undergraduate research);
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Knowledge of research procedures and data management principles;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Ability to communicate professionally with research participants and interdisciplinary team members;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating effectively with the research team.

Desired:
  • Experience supporting clinical research studies or working with healthcare data;
  • Experience screening and testing patients is a plus;
  • Experience working with Veterans is a plus.
