What is a part time remote physics job?

Part-time remote physics jobs are positions that allow individuals to work in the field of physics on a part-time basis, typically less than 40 hours per week, while performing their duties remotely from home or another location outside of a traditional office or lab. These roles can include teaching, tutoring, research assistance, scientific consulting, or technical writing, all done online. They offer flexibility for those balancing other commitments or seeking supplemental income, and often require strong communication skills, self-motivation, and access to reliable internet and necessary technology.

What are some common challenges faced by part time remote physics professionals and how can they be addressed?

Part-time remote physics professionals often face challenges such as limited access to laboratory equipment, coordinating effectively with team members across different time zones, and maintaining clear communication with supervisors and peers. To address these, professionals can utilize virtual lab simulations, adopt collaborative online tools for meetings and document sharing, and establish regular check-ins with their teams. Proactively managing time and staying organized are also crucial for balancing project deadlines and part-time schedules.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time remote physics instructor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Remote Physics Instructor, you need a strong background in physics, typically demonstrated by a relevant degree and teaching or tutoring experience. Familiarity with online learning platforms (such as Zoom, Google Classroom, or Moodle) and digital assessment tools is essential. Excellent communication, patience, and the ability to motivate students in a virtual environment are critical soft skills. These competencies ensure effective instruction, student engagement, and successful learning outcomes in a remote setting.

Job description

This role is for one of our clients
Compensation: $80 - $110 per hour
Join a cutting-edge AI research initiative focused on advancing the next generation of mathematical reasoning systems. This opportunity is designed for accomplished mathematicians who are passionate about applying their research expertise to improve frontier AI models capable of solving complex mathematical problems at a professional research level.
Rather than working on textbook-style mathematics, you'll help train AI systems to reason across advanced areas such as number theory, algebra, algebraic geometry, topology, analysis, partial differential equations, probability, combinatorics, dynamical systems, logic, representation theory, mathematical physics, theoretical computer science, statistics, and related disciplines.
As part of a collaborative team of researchers, you'll contribute directly to the development of AI models that perform sophisticated mathematical reasoning.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
  • Review and assess advanced mathematical research papers for correctness, originality, and rigor.
  • Design and evaluate challenging research-level mathematics problems used to train and benchmark AI models.
  • Analyze AI-generated proofs, derivations, formalizations, and problem-solving approaches for accuracy and mathematical soundness.
  • Identify subtle logical errors, missing assumptions, invalid proof steps, and reasoning flaws that require expert mathematical judgment.
  • Collaborate with fellow subject matter experts to ensure consistently high-quality training data and evaluation standards.
  • Provide detailed written feedback to improve AI reasoning and mathematical performance.

Required Qualifications
Candidates should meet several of the following criteria:
  • First-author or sole-author publications in leading mathematics journals such as:
    • Annals of Mathematics
    • Inventiones Mathematicae
    • Journal of the American Mathematical Society
    • Acta Mathematica
    • Duke Mathematical Journal
    • Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics
    • Geometry & Topology
    • Journal of the European Mathematical Society (JEMS)
    • Geometric and Functional Analysis (GAFA)
    • Advances in Mathematics
    • Probability Theory and Related Fields
  • Candidates from adjacent disciplines with publications in premier venues such as STOC, FOCS, SODA, or Annals of Statistics are also encouraged to apply.
  • PhD or postdoctoral training in Mathematics or a closely related STEM discipline from a globally recognized institution.

    • AMS Centennial Fellowship
    • Hertz Fellowship
    • Marshall or Rhodes Scholarship
    • New Horizons in Mathematics Prize
    • Salem Prize
    • Ramanujan Prize
  • Earlier-career applicants may instead demonstrate exceptional achievement through Putnam Fellow recognition or an International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) medal.
  • Experience serving as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on competitive research grants (e.g., NSF CAREER Award or equivalent).
  • Current or recent experience as a:
    • PhD candidate
    • Postdoctoral researcher
    • Faculty member
    • Research mathematician
    • Principal researcher
    • Industry research scientist

Outstanding senior PhD candidates and recent graduates with exceptional publication records are strongly encouraged to apply.
