Job description

The Dietitian designs and implements therapeutic nutritional care plans for patients, based on physician's diagnosis, utilizing general dietetic standards and regulations. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.
Essential Functions:
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in the nutritional aspects of patient care by: sharing specialized knowledge with others on the medical team, participating appropriately in patient rounds and conferences, recording in medical records, and assessing the nutritional status of patients, instructing patients, recording diet histories, interpreting and integrating therapeutic principles.
  • Monitors and documents patient progress and consults with physicians as needed. Makes appropriate notation of food and drug interaction in the patient medical record.
  • Educates and provides guidance to staff, patients, and families regarding diet and food plans.
  • Administers and advises dietary operations to ensure menus comply with prescribed nutritional plans.
  • Maintain current diet manual for therapeutic diets that have been approved jointly by the dietitian and medical staff.
  • May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
  • Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
  • Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
  • Completes required trainings, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.

Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum Education & Experience:
  • Two years directly related experience in hospital setting preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutritional sciences, clinical nutrition, public health nutrition, or a related area required.

Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation:
  • Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration required.
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Dietitian as applicable per state requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of current patient diet, food and nutrition research, and safe food handling requirement.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of treatment costs and financial support as they relate to quality and efficiency
  • Demonstrates general computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection prevention standards.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work closely and professionally with others at all levels of the organization.

Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift:
  • A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods of time.
  • Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care.
  • Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
  • Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
