Duties may include running printers, preparing materials, performing quality checks, and packaging finished products. These roles are ideal for students, retirees, or anyone seeking flexible work hours, and may be found in commercial print shops, copy centers, or in-house corporate print departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time printing associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Printing Associate, you need attention to detail, basic computer literacy, and familiarity with printing processes, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience with printers, copiers, print management software, and possibly graphic design tools like Adobe Creative Suite is typically required. Strong customer service, time management, and problem-solving skills help you provide quality service and handle multiple tasks efficiently. These skills are crucial for producing accurate print jobs, meeting customer needs, and maintaining efficient print shop operations.

What are some common challenges faced in a part-time printing role, and how can they be addressed?

Job description

Austin Print Co. | Downtown Austin, TX (near W 12th Street)
Austin Print Co. is looking for a dependable, outgoing, and organized Part-Time Retail & Customer Service Associate to help operate our downtown Austin retail location near W 12th Street.
This is more than a traditional retail position. You will be the primary team member responsible for the downtown storefront during your scheduled shifts while also working alongside our customer service and production teams to help customers move their orders from inquiry to completion.
Schedule | Approximately 30 Hours/Week
Weekends are required.
  • Saturday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Sunday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Monday 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Tuesday 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
What You'll Do
  • Welcome and assist walk-in customers
  • Help customers select apparel, promotional products, signage, awards, and other custom products
  • Handle customer pickups and drop-offs
  • Answer incoming phone calls when needed
  • Respond to customer emails and inquiries
  • Gather information needed to prepare customer orders and quotes
  • Create and send custom quotes after training
  • Follow up with customers regarding quotes, artwork, proofs, quantities, and order approvals
  • Communicate with our production and design teams regarding customer requests
  • Keep customer orders and next actions updated in our internal system
  • Assist the primary customer service team with emails, calls, quotes, and follow-ups
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming retail environment
  • Open and close the downtown location independently once fully trained
What We're Looking For
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Friendly and comfortable speaking with customers in person, by phone, and through email
  • Highly organized and able to keep track of multiple customer requests
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Able to recognize what needs to be done without constantly waiting for direction
  • Comfortable learning quoting and order-management software
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Able to prioritize an in-person customer while keeping track of other pending work
  • Previous retail, customer service, sales, print, promotional product, or order-management experience is a plus
How the Role Works
Our downtown retail associate works closely with our customer service team at our production facility. While your first responsibility is taking care of customers visiting the downtown store, slower periods are used to help answer inquiries, prepare quotes, follow up with customers, and move open orders forward.
The goal is simple: customers should receive timely service regardless of which Austin Print Co. team member they initially speak with.
Opportunity for Growth
This position will begin as a part-time role at approximately 30 hours per week. As our downtown location and overall order volume grow, there are opportunities for this position to expand into a full-time role.
We're looking for someone who would be interested in growing with Austin Print Co. and taking on additional customer service, sales, and retail responsibilities as the position develops.
2+ years of retail, customer service, hospitality, sales, or other customer-facing experience preferred. Previous print or apparel industry experience is preferred but not required.
