IFPDA Foundation Intern (Temporary, Part-Time)
Prints & Drawings

SUMMARY
Reporting to the Associate Curator, the intern will gain supervised experience handling works on paper, develop skills in collections research, become familiar with The Museum System (TMS) database, and receive training in professional museum practices. Additional opportunities include cross-departmental collaboration and contributing to a public-facing blog post.

This internship offers hands-on experience within a major museum print collection of more than 25,000 objects. The intern will support a focused research and cataloging project on LACMAโ€™s extensive Cirrus Editions Archive, working with curatorial and collections staff to review and organize records while learning to distinguish between editioned and non-editioned materials.

This is an 8-week paid internship, approximately 24 hours per week at $17.87/hour.
Anticipated Start Date: July 1, 2026

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists with a focused collections research and cataloging project centered on the Cirrus Editions Archive within the Department of Prints and Drawings

  • Learns to review, verify, and organize archive records to support accuracy and completeness

  • Assess objects and associated documentation to distinguish editioned works from non-editioned materials, including progressive and trial proofs, as well as preparatory elements such as mylars, maquettes, and drawings

  • Supports work on a large archive of over 3,500 records, with a focus on editioned prints

  • Learns and applies museum standards and best practices to help ensure only editioned works are published in the museumโ€™s Collections Online database

  • Assists in reviewing and updating TMS catalog records for accuracy, consistency, and completeness, including verifying catalogue raisonnรฉ numbers and standardizing descriptive fields

  • Identifies and helps resolve discrepancies across records to improve the quality of collections data

  • Develops an understanding of the Cirrus Editions holdings and contributes to a final presentation of findings

  • Contributes to a written article for the museumโ€™s Unframed blog to share research insights with a broader public audience

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled in an MA or PhD program in Art History (preferred)

  • Prior experience working in a museum setting

  • Demonstrated academic or professional interest in works on paper

  • Knowledge of 20th-century print history

  • Familiarity with printmaking processes
