Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems (AES) is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to join our Cabin Electronics Power Team in Kirkland, WA.

The Cabin Electronics Product Group is the world’s leading manufacturer of in-seat power systems for the commercial airline industry. The group’s EmPower® product line provides a variety of scalable power solutions for aircraft passenger cabins and flight decks. The system is used by over 280 airlines, IFE suppliers, and all major aircraft OEM manufacturers worldwide.

Job Summary:

The Sr. Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and validating complex power solutions for aircraft passenger cabins and flight decks. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, support product development, and proactively engage with both internal and external stakeholders to resolve engineering issues efficiently. This role requires a deep understanding of system and Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) requirements, with a focus on ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and Document Requirements: Utilize requirements management tools to create and document system and LRU requirements, ensuring proper flow-down to hardware, software, and system integration engineers.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical solutions for specific applications, including conducting trade studies, engineering analyses, and system-level testing.
  • Program Support: Aid the Product Development Program Management team in estimating program costs and schedules and participating in key milestone reviews.
  • Sales Support: Collaborate with the Business Development team on proposal activities and in defining new products.
  • Engineering Design: Incorporate lessons learned into engineering processes and design guidelines, developing new guidelines as necessary.
  • Customer Communication: Effectively communicate with internal and external customers to clarify and resolve system engineering issues.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Requirements Verification: Lead system and LRU requirements verification, including compliance matrix development and verification procedures, testing, and reporting.
  • Problem-Solving: Resolve technical difficulties with high analytical expertise and originality.
  • Proposal Support: Assist the Business Development team in determining the optimal technical approach, authoring technical descriptions, and assessing compliance with customer specifications.
  • Customer Coordination: Work directly with customers to make design decisions and maximize the reuse of existing designs.
  • Certification Activities: Act as a focal point for OEM offerability and FAA/EASA certification activities. Familiarity with DO-160, Airbus, Boeing, and other aircraft OEM requirements is advantageous.
  • Teamwork: Thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experience: 5+ years of proven experience in developing new requirements, ensuring traceability.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient with requirements management tools such as Polarion, DOORS or Borland Caliber.
  • Documentation Skills: Ability to author technical documents, including specifications and test plans.
  • Presentation Skills: Experience presenting technical information to customers and management.
  • System Development: Experience following a defined system development process.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $102,687 - $154,031 per year. (Mid-point: $128,359).
  • Astronics also offers a highly competitive Quarterly Profit Sharing Bonus.

Factors such as experience in comparable roles, skill sets, training, education, certifications, other qualifications, market conditions and business needs influence actual salary offered. At Astronics AES, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range.
