Job Description:
Police Officer in this position will carry out University and departmental rules, regulations, and procedures and see that the laws of Texas are upheld in an efficient, effective and professional demeanor as a representative of the department. A police officer must lead by example knowing first impressions are the key to the success of the department. Individual must have a good working knowledge of all directives including university policies.
STARTING PAY IS $28.85 per hour . MUST BE TCOLE CERTIFIED
THIS JOB IS FOR A TCOLE CERTIFIED PEACE OFFICER. YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE YOUR TCOLE CERTIFICATION BEFORE YOUR FIRST DAY OF EMPLOYMENT.
Job Duties
  • Conducts investigations on all criminal and non-criminal cases that occur on campus.
  • Patrols the campus in a University vehicle, bicycle or on foot.
  • Provides service, information and directions to students, employees and visitors.
  • Insures University property and facilities are secure.
  • Preserves the peace by all lawful means while ensuring the dignity and rights of individuals are preserved at all times.
  • Enforces traffic laws, making violator contacts, placing subjects in custody or issuing warnings or citation, enforcing Federal, State and Local laws.
  • Prepares reports on all activities, filing them with the immediate supervisor.
  • Cooperates & collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
  • Complies with all of Trinity University policies & guidelines.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION
Work is reviewed by supervising officers through activities, reports and periodic observation of performance.
EDUCATION
Required: High School graduate or its equivalent
Preferred: A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Currently certified as a Texas Peace Officer
Preferred: Currently certified as a Texas Peace Officer; and, two years of experience in the security or criminal justice field.
EQUIPMENT AND ACCURACY
Equipment (required): Firearms, intermediate weapons to include: pepper spray, ASP baton, Taser, hand held radio, dispatch equipment, university automobiles, multi-line telephone equipment, and some general office machines.
Accuracy (required): Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to act quickly and rationally in emergency situations, the ability to interpret and implement numerous policies, procedures, and laws.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Must have good physical stamina to handle emergency situations. The following is a list of activities that is required by this position. They are as follows:

  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Lifting objects of 50 lbs or more

  • Driving
  • Exposed to inclement weather

OTHER
Must pass a physical examination to include drug screening and psychological profile. A thorough background investigation will be conducted, and applicant must have no felony convictions. Must posses a valid Texas Driver's License and have a good driving history; applicant may not have more than two moving violation in a three-year period. Requires working rotating shifts, holidays and overtime. Some aspects of this position may be hazardous.
ATTENDANCE STANDARD
Maintaining and satisfying minimum attendance requirements is an essential function of this position, including working all full-time regular hours as established for this position and any scheduled or emergency overtime. All employees in this job classification are required to satisfy this requirement.
