Job description

The Phoenix Police Department Public Records & Services Bureau is currently seeking to hire Police Records Clerks. These positions require attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and effective time management skill and the ability to work cooperatively with others in a team setting.
Duties include and are not limited to:
  • Files, maintains, and searches criminal history files and furnishes authorized information to authorized persons only.
  • Performs rapid record checks in response to radio/telephone inquiries.
  • Responds to information requests from police and other law enforcement officials and the public.
  • Operates a computer for query of and data entry into a variety of City, statewide, and national databases.
  • Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
  • Provides certain technical information to City staff and citizens and interprets City rules within a defined area of activity, such as traffic regulations and alarm system ordinances and fees.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • Knowledge of various law enforcement databases (i.e., RMS, CAD, ACIC, NCIC, and ACJIS).
  • Ability to demonstrate proper English usage, grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and spelling.

SALARY
Pay Range: $23.06 to $34.08 per hour.
Hiring Range: $23.06 to $26.70 per hour.
Pay Range Explanation:
  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 341. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

BENEFITS
Part-time employees are eligible for earned paid sick time, city training, and free or discounted bus and light rail fares.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • One year of clerical experience.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Positions in the Police Department must meet the background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. The general factors for disqualification are listed here .
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience:
  • With processing, reviewing and fulfilling records requests.
  • Processing, maintaining, and auditing confidential documentation.
  • In general computer use such as email, internet for research purposes, and data entry.
