Description
The purpose of the class is to operate light to medium equipment and perform manual labor in the abatement of mosquitos; to maintain assigned equipment; and to perform other work as required. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor.
Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Operates a mosquito spray truck four (4) to six (6) hours per evening as needed.
• Carries out the County's safety program in pesticide applicator and application equipment safety
as required by federal/state laws.
• Prepares and maintains accurate records of operations.
• Manually loads/unloads equipment and supplies onto vehicles.
• Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment.
• Assists co-workers with various duties as required.
• Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
• Attends training as required to maintain or enhance job knowledge and skills.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
All County employees are considered public servants for the citizens of Dorchester County. When requested before, during, or after an emergency event, County employees are expected to work and serve the public in coping with the emergency.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
Requires at least one (1) year of related work experience.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid state driver's license.
Must be able to read maps/GPS and locate specific areas within the County.
Must be able to work non-standard shift hours; normal working hours begins at 9 PM; generally, this position will be 15-25 hours per week during mosquito season (April - November).
Must be able to work with pesticides.
