Position Summary:
The Beautification Specialist plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and visually appealing community. This active position combines field-based roadside maintenance, community beautification efforts, and event logistics support. The incumbent may also be assigned to assist with similar duties across various City departments as needed. Responsibilities include removing litter and vegetation overgrowth from public rights-of-way, transporting collected waste to designated disposal sites, supporting community aesthetic initiatives, and assisting with the planning, setup, execution, and breakdown of community events such as workshops, litter cleanups, and other City-sponsored activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Roadside & Beautification Maintenance
- Litter Removal & Disposal:Clear litter, debris, and illegal signage from localrights-of-way,safely haul waste to the dump, and report major hazards or illegal dumping sites to supervisors.
- Property Beautification:Perform minor landscaping and abatement (brush clearing around traffic signs, weed pulling, light string-trimming) and remove graffiti from public property using pressure washers or paint.
Event Logistics & Support
- Pre/Post-Event Logistics:Transport, set up, and break down event equipment (tents, tables, chairs), and place promotional yard signs a week before events, collecting them afterward.
- On-Site Event Support:Provide hands-on assistance during community events, including directing traffic, distributing volunteer supplies, and managing waste stations.
Inventory & Equipment Care
- Equipment Maintenance:Perform safety and cleanliness checks on work vehicles and light outdoor tools (weed eaters, pressure washers) before and after shifts.
- Inventory Management:Organize and track inventory for all event and safety supplies (gloves, trash bags, safety vests) to ensure the team is always stocked and prepared.
- Performs other general tasks as requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of roadside maintenance, litter removal, and community beautification practices.
- Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of light outdoor equipment and tools.
- Ability to identify and report hazards and maintenance concerns.
- Ability to assist with event setup, logistics, and support activities.
- Ability to organize and maintain equipment and supply inventory.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to perform physical work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid, active Driver's License with a clean driving record and the flexibility to work required evening and weekend hours.
- High school diploma or equivalent. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Proven experience as a maintenance worker or other similar position.
- Ability to safely and appropriately operate and maintain tools, including hand and electrical tools, and lawn and garden equipment.
- Entry level knowledge of landscape maintenance and practices.
- Physical ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds, and to walk, stand, bend, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic to work independently, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to speak English and Spanish is preferred.
Working Conditions: Occasionally: Standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, and handling stressful situations. Frequently: Sitting, communicating with others, using hands and arms repetitively, concentrating, observing details, making decisions, and performing routine office tasks in a municipal environment.
