We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to support our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), primarily in the perioperative and post-anesthesia care areas. This role is ideal for an RN with strong assessment skills, procedural experience, and a passion for safe, high-quality patient outcomes.
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing patient nursing care needs, evaluating the effectiveness of care provided, and integrating nursing theory into clinical practice throughout the Ambulatory Surgery Center. This role focuses primarily on perioperative and post-anesthesia care while supporting safe patient outcomes across all phases of care.
The RN collaborates with patients, families, physicians, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary team members to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient care needs. This position requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to respond effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment.

Position Highlights
  • Flexible PRN Schedule - Approximately 1-3 shifts per month.
  • Guaranteed pay for scheduled on-call shifts if coverage is not ultimately needed.
  • Must work at least one shift per month (days or nights) to maintain competency in the facility.

Requirements
  • Assess patient condition upon admission to post-anesthesia and post-operative recovery areas and continuously monitor patient progress.
  • Deliver safe, therapeutic, and high-quality nursing care using the nursing process and evidence-based practices.
  • Coordinate nursing interventions to ensure patients are prepared for procedures and discharged safely.
  • Monitor and support patients undergoing anesthesia and/or sedation, including airway management and patient safety.
  • Administer treatments and carry out physician orders accurately and promptly.
  • Identify and respond to patient care needs across diverse age populations, from pediatric to geriatric patients.
  • Ensure patient safety through adherence to aseptic technique, sterile practices, universal precautions, and infection prevention standards.
  • Support the surgical team by anticipating patient and procedural needs throughout the care continuum.
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, leadership, staff, patients, and families.
  • Provide patient and family education based on readiness to learn and discharge needs
  • Participate in post-operative communication and care coordination.
  • Assist with chart review, database entry, infection control, stocking, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in maintaining regulatory certification and accreditation standards
  • Serve as a mentor and resource to staff when appropriate.
  • Support orientation and education of nursing and ancillary team members.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet department and patient care needs.

Qualifications:
  • Current State of Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Current CPR certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU, Pre/Post Recovery, OR, or procedural nursing experience.
  • Experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) setting, preferred.
  • ACLS and PALS certification, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire, preferred.

Physical Requirements
This position requires:
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients as needed.
  • Manual dexterity to perform clinical procedures and patient care tasks.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Visual and hearing acuity sufficient for patient assessment and communication.

Compensation is based on education, skills and experience.
Position is on an as needed basis.
