Title: Lecturer, CC (Culinary Arts) - Fall 2025/Spring 2026/Summer 2026

Salary: Minimum $1,978/per credit hour
Other Conditions:
Fall 2025/Spring 2026/Summer 2026, part-time, temporary, for lecturer applicant pool. Non-tenurial, pending availability of funding and actual staffing requirements. May be for Leeward CC day, evening or weekend offerings on- and off-campus such as Leeward CC - Waianae Moku and local area high schools (pending background clearance) or other satellite campuses.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Teach Dining Room Operations and a variety of other program courses, including but not limited to, Introduction to the Culinary Industry, Sanitation and Safety, Menu Merchandising, Culinary Special Events, Culinary Purchasing and Cost Management, Human Resources Management and Supervision in the Hospitality Industry, and Culinary Externship.
  2. Maintain minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
  3. Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  4. Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  5. Plan, organize, and manage the day-to-day cleaning and maintenance of the dining room, service areas, equipment, and supplies.
  6. Order necessary beverages, foods, and supplies, and adhere to receiving and storage guidelines.
  7. Prepare budgets, control beverage, food, and supply costs, and contribute to the financial success of the instructional program.
  8. Plan, organize, and participate in campus, program, and industry extra-curricular activities.
  9. May include instructional assignments involving distance education.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. (a) Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts and 3 years of related work experience which may include professional training; OR (b) Associate degree in Culinary Arts and 5 years of related work experience which may include professional training; OR (c) 15 college credits in Culinary Arts and 7 years of related work experience which may include professional training; OR (d) Master recognition by Culinary Arts Community and 10 years of related work experience.
  2. All minimum qualifications must be from a regionally or nationally accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.

Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Hospitality.
  2. Teaching experience at a community college level.
  3. Solid foundation and experience in fundamental principles, techniques, and skills of dining room operations, including but not limited to, the variety of service styles, wine & beverage service, coordination between the front and back-of-the-house, and the practices, responsibilities and liabilities associated with alcohol service.
  4. Professional dining room work experience in restaurants, hotels, or private clubs, as a Manager or a higher position.
  5. Experience in teaching courses or workshops related to dining room operations.
  6. Possess effective written, verbal, and listening (communication) skills.
  7. Possess effective organizational and management skills.
  8. Experience in the use of technology for teaching such as online collaboration tools, presentation software, and course management tools.
  9. Demonstrated effectiveness to be able to function independently and as a member of a team.
  10. Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners and communicate clearly.
  11. Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
