Job description

Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Biotechnology & Good Manufacturing Practice (BGMP) program faculty and the Dean of Natural and Health Sciences, responsibilities of this position include labs housekeeping, helping with prep-lab activities for instructors, weekly inventories and student's tutoring. Requirements: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Overall lab cleanliness is the main responsibility of the lab assistant. The lab should be as clean as possible at all times. This includes, but is not limited to
  • Glassware washed, and put away once dry
  • Benches to be cleaned with sanitizer or alcohol spray
  • Return equipment, pipettes, supplies, etc., to their assigned spots
  • Ensure chairs and portable benches are in their assigned places
  • Ensure glove holders are stocked with all sizes of gloves at all times
  • Change the water in the water bath at least 1x/month, to prevent microbial growth
  • Keep 70% IPA and disinfectant spray bottles full
  • Maintain stock of autoclaved glassware as needed, per direction in Bio manufacturing class
  • "Lounge" area to be clean at all times
  • General tidiness, discard trash
  • Ensure cleanliness of microwave and refrigerator
  • Whiteboard is cleaned as needed
  • Ensure sufficient stock of chemicals and consumables
  • Routinely perform a visual inventory using the Supplies Checklist, and alerting appropriate personnel of necessary reordering
  • Receiving shipments, and opening shipment in a timely manner
  • Quality assure status of shipments
  • Alert appropriate staff members of missing or inaccurate items in shipment
  • Keep the Master Supplies Ordering Excel Sheet up to date
