DescriptionThe Graduate Research Assistant will support the development of a cost-effective and scalable protected species monitoring plan for an offshore finfish net pen. The student will conduct vessel-based visual surveys and deploy/maintain passive acoustic monitoring devices to assess effects on protected species.
Examples of Duties- Analyze visual and acoustic data
- Deploy, retrieve, and maintain passive acoustic monitoring devices
- Conduct vessel-based visual surveys for protected species
- Assist with the preparation of scientific publications, conference presentations, and project reports
- Assist faculty with training materials and protected species monitoring protocols for farm staff
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum QualificationsCurrently admitted to the graduate degree program in the Marine Mammal Program at NCF; Academic performance at an advanced level, primarily in the Master's program; Must be in good standing in all current classes.
Preferred QualificationsAt least 1 year of research experience; provide evidence of prior scientific productivity, including but not limited to co-authorship on manuscripts, attendance of scientific conferences, and contribution to laboratory or field work, or experience working with marine animals.
