Position Overview
The City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Laboratory Assistant (Part-Time) in the Department of Utility Services. The consideration for hire list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of chemical, physical, and biological analyses on water, wastewater and bio solids samples in accordance with established methods and procedures, and performs related duties as assigned.
Position Details:
  • This is a part-time, PERS-eligible position
  • The work schedule will consist of an average of 29 hours/week. Hours per week may increase or decrease based on Department needs.
  • May be required to work an alternative or flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours.
  • This part-time position does not qualify for medical benefits or union representation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, or a related science field
  • One (1) year of experience in a laboratory environment
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483.
  • Must obtain certification from the Nevada Water Environment Association (NWEA) as a Wastewater Quality Analyst In-Training within one (1) year of appointment as a condition of continued employment
  • Must obtain and maintain certification as a Grade I Wastewater Quality Analyst from the NWEA within two (2) years of appointment as a condition of continued employment
  • All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by state and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained and maintained at incumbent's expense.
