What Does a Part-Time Notary Do?

As a part-time notary, you review documents and ensure their authenticity. Your responsibilities are to act as a witness to signed documents, ensure individuals sign them correctly, and keep a record of all documents that pass through your building. You can work with deeds, affidavits, wills, and domestic business paperwork, among other types of materials. Your duties are that of a notary public, serving local citizens by helping them accomplish goals that require thorough documentation. Working part-time, your schedule is incredibly flexible. You might work mornings, evenings, or just on the weekends to earn extra cash.

What type of notaries make the most money?

Commissioned notaries who specialize in loan signing, such as signing agents, tend to earn higher fees due to their specialized training and the demand for real estate transactions. Notaries with additional certifications or experience in legal or financial document notarizations can also command higher rates. Income varies based on location, workload, and the ability to build a client base.

Search & ComparisonOften searched as Part Time Notary vs Notary Public

Both roles require state certification and involve witnessing signatures. A Part Time Notary typically works independently with flexible hours, while a Notary Public may work within organizations or agencies. The main difference lies in the employment setting and scope of work, but both serve similar legal functions in notarizing documents.

What is a part time notary?

A part time notary is a commissioned individual who offers notarial services, such as witnessing signatures and verifying identities, on a part-time basis rather than as a full-time job. Part time notaries often have flexible hours and may work independently, for a mobile notary service, or alongside another primary job. Their responsibilities include verifying the identity of signers, administering oaths, and ensuring documents are signed willingly and knowingly. The part time nature of the role allows notaries to supplement their income while providing a valuable service to their community.

What are some common challenges part-time notaries face when balancing notary work with other commitments?

Part-time notaries often juggle their notarial duties alongside another primary job or personal obligations, which can make scheduling appointments with clients a challenge. They may also need to stay updated on changing state regulations and maintain their commission while managing a variable workload. Flexibility, strong organizational skills, and proactive communication are key to successfully managing these challenges and building a reliable client base.

Can you make a living off of being a notary?

A part-time notary can generate supplemental income but typically does not provide a full-time living unless combined with other related services or a high volume of notarizations. Income depends on factors such as location, certification, and the number of clients served, with many notaries earning modest fees per appointment. To increase earnings, some notaries expand their services or work in specialized areas like loan signings or legal document notarizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Notary, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Notary, you need a strong understanding of notarial laws, attention to detail, and a valid notary commission from your state. Familiarity with notary journals, identity verification tools, and sometimes digital notarization platforms is typically required. Exceptional integrity, professionalism, and strong interpersonal communication help build client trust and ensure legal compliance. These skills and qualities are crucial to prevent fraud, maintain legal standards, and deliver reliable service to clients.

Can I do notary work as a side hustle?

Part time notaries can often work as a side hustle, as the role typically involves flexible hours and can be performed outside of regular employment. However, they must meet state-specific licensing requirements and may need to complete a training course and background check before starting. This allows for additional income without full-time commitment.

Is there a demand for notary signing agents?

There is consistent demand for notary signing agents, especially those who are certified and experienced in loan signings and document notarizations. The role often requires flexibility, knowledge of state laws, and the ability to work independently, making it a viable part-time opportunity with steady opportunities in the financial and real estate sectors.

Job description

Real Estate Closing & Legal Coordinator

Our client: Edwards Law, LLC a boutique real estate, estate planning & probate practice in Buckhead

Location: Buckhead, Atlanta, GA Hybrid (in-office required)

Compensation: $22.50$25.50/hour, commensurate with experience

Type: Part-time to start, growing to full-time

Maven HR Advisory Group is proud to be leading this search on behalf of Edwards Law, a boutique Buckhead firm known for precise, client-centered work across residential real estate closings, estate planning, and probate.

We're looking for an experienced Real Estate Closing & Legal Coordinator who thrives in a fast-paced closing practice and takes genuine pride in accurate, organized work. If you enjoy owning files from contract through closing and you're the kind of professional who takes direction once and then runs with it this role is built for you.

About the role: Real estate closings are the heart of this position. You'll coordinate transactions end to end: preparing and reviewing ALTA Settlement Statements, ordering payoffs and HOA letters, reviewing title commitments, coordinating lenders, and keeping every file organized and audit-ready. During seasonal lulls, you'll support estate planning and probate matters. This role frequently operates as the sole non-attorney in the office, so independence, initiative, and reliability are essential and rewarded, with a clear path toward Lead Coordinator and management as the firm grows.

What we're looking for:

  • 2+ years residential real estate closing experience
  • Experience with Qualia or similar closing software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Comfort reviewing settlement statements and coordinating multiple files at once
  • Strong written communication and exceptional attention to detail
  • Preferred: Georgia Notary (or ability to obtain within 90 days), GAR contracts, title commitments, lender/HOA coordination, payoffs, ALTA statements, wire disbursement

The details: Hybrid and in-office by design Monday through Friday, 95, on-site 23 days a week and on every closing day. This is not a remote role. The position begins part-time and grows toward full-time as the workload and your demonstrated reliability increase.

Our process: We believe in a fair, merit-based hiring process. Qualified applicants will complete a practical skills assessment designed to reflect the actual day-to-day work of the role so your experience and ability speak for themselves.

How to apply both steps are required:

  1. Submit your application and resume here.
  2. Email us with the subject line 'Real Estate Closing & Legal Coordinator [Last Name]' and answer this in 35 sentences: 'Describe a specific time you caught an error or inconsistency before it became a problem. What exactly did you notice, and what did you do about it?'

We review every application personally. Both steps are required to be considered.

Edwards Law is an equal opportunity employer.
