Job description

The Buffalo Grove Park District is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head Swim Coach to lead our competitive Hurricanes Swim Team. The Head Swim Coach is responsible for the management and on-site supervision of all assigned competitive aquatics programs. This position creates a fun, safe, and competitive environment while developing athletes, supervising coaching staff, maintaining communication with parents, and ensuring the successful operation of the swim team. This is a part-time position averaging approximately 19 hours per week.
Essential Functions
1.    Develop competitive swimming skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship through practices, clinics, meets, and other team activities.
2.    Create a positive, safe, and competitive environment for all participants.
3.    Maintain regular communication with parents regarding team activities, expectations, and participant progress.
4.    Supervise, schedule, train, and assist with the recruitment and hiring of Assistant Coaches and other assigned staff.
5.    Complete performance evaluations and provide ongoing leadership, coaching, and support to staff.
6.    Maintain accurate records of participant registration, attendance, progress, performance, and injuries.
7.    Complete Accident/Incident Reports, Situation Reports, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
8.    Ensure assigned facilities are properly prepared for practices, meets, and other team activities, including opening and closing responsibilities.
9.    Verify payroll records for assigned staff are complete and accurate.
10.    Attend practices, swim meets, parent meetings, coaches meetings, NISC meetings, and required staff trainings.
11.    Support the Park District's commitment to providing accessible and inclusive programs.
12.    Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Education & Experience
•    Prior experience coaching competitive aquatic programs is required.
•    Valid Illinois Class "D" Driver's License.
•    Attain (within six (6) months of employment) and maintain Adult CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
•    Lifeguard certification is preferred.

•    Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
•    Ability to motivate swimmers while fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
•    Ability to supervise staff, make sound decisions under pressure, and respond appropriately during emergencies.
Salary:
$21+ per hour depending on qualifications.
