Job description

Position Title: Accounting Manager

Location: Statesville, NC (Hybrid)

Compensation: $120,000 - $135,000 / Annually

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Role Overview:

  • Lead and oversee daily accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Payroll, Purchasing, General Ledger, and Cost Accounting functions
  • Manage and mentor a team of 4+ accounting professionals in a stable, self-sufficient environment
  • Partner closely with executive leadership to support financial strategy, reporting, and operational improvements
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting while maintaining compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily accounting activities and provide guidance to the accounting team
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial statements
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account analysis and reconciliations
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for operating expenses and capital expenditures
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports to support business decisions
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and financial planning initiatives
  • Coordinate annual audits and prepare audit working papers
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of required regulatory and financial reporting
  • Manage banking relationships and oversee financial service costs
  • Support loan applications, documentation, and funding requests
  • Provide financial guidance and support to various departments and locations
  • Assist with software implementations, system enhancements, and data reporting initiatives

Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field
  • 3+ years of accounting experience with supervisory or management responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles
  • Experience managing month-end/year-end close processes
  • Background in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and support a team
  • Experience in a cooperative environment preferred
  • CPA or advanced education is a plus

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools
  • ERP/accounting system experience
  • Experience with NISC or utility-specific systems preferred
