What is a nightclub doorman called?

A nightclub doorman is commonly referred to as a bouncer or security guard. They are responsible for maintaining safety, checking IDs, and controlling access to the venue, often working during evening and night shifts. These roles typically require good communication skills and sometimes security certifications.

Is it hard to get a bouncer job?

Getting a part-time night club doorman or bouncer job can be competitive, as it often requires physical fitness, good communication skills, and sometimes security or licensing certifications. Employers look for reliability, the ability to handle difficult situations, and a clean background, which can influence how difficult it is to secure the position.

Nightclub bouncers, or doormen, typically earn between $12 and $20 per hour, depending on the location, venue size, and experience. Some may also receive tips or bonuses, especially in high-end clubs or busy nights. Pay can vary based on the shift, with night and weekend hours often paying more.

DOOR PERSON / DOOR SUPERVISOR
Part Time
Must be avialable evenings Friday - Saturday potentially more dates - working late nights

Only the Wild Ones is a high-energy hi-fi wine bar, music venue, and cultural gathering space opening in Austin, TX located in the heart of South Congress. Rooted in natural wine, sound, hospitality, and community, our space is designed to create an unforgettable guest experience — balancing vibrant energy with warmth, professionalism, and strong operational flow.

We are seeking a confident, professional, and highly aware Door Host / Door Supervisor to join our team on high volume nights.
This role is critical to the overall guest experience and nightly operations of the space. You are the first point of contact for every guest entering the venue and play a key role in setting the tone, maintaining safety, managing capacity, and ensuring smooth flow throughout the evening.

The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, personable but firm, highly observant, and experienced in busy nightlife or hospitality environments.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the front entrance and guest arrival experience throughout service
• Check IDs thoroughly and ensure compliance with all alcohol service laws and company policies
• Monitor guest flow and venue capacity to maintain a safe and comfortable environment
• Communicate closely with management and floor leadership regarding occupancy, pacing, and any operational concerns
• Help maintain a welcoming, organized, and professional entrance experience at all times
• De-escalate guest issues calmly, respectfully, and professionally when necessary
• Maintain awareness of the room, guest behavior, and overall safety conditions throughout the shift
• Assist with line management and crowd flow during high-volume periods
• Enforce company standards and venue policies consistently and respectfully
• Work collaboratively with floor staff, bartenders, security, and management throughout service
• Support special events, music nights, private events, and high-volume weekends as needed

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in nightlife, hospitality, security, or high-volume guest-facing environments preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Calm demeanor and good judgment in fast-paced situations
• Professional appearance and strong sense of hospitality
• Ability to stand for extended periods and work late-night shifts
• Must be dependable, punctual, and team-oriented
• Current TABC certification preferred or willingness to obtain prior to start

What We’re Looking For:

• Someone who can create a warm but well-managed guest experience
• A strong presence at the door without unnecessary aggression or ego
• Someone who understands hospitality first, while still maintaining boundaries and safety standards
• A team player who contributes positively to the culture and energy of the space

Benefits of Working with Only the Wild Ones

• Competitive hourly compensation
• Staff dining and beverage discounts
• Dynamic, creative, music-forward work environment
• Access to events, tastings, and cultural programming

Equal Opportunity Employment

Only the Wild Ones is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating a workplace rooted in respect, inclusivity, professionalism, and equal opportunity for all employees and applicants.
