Position Information
Position Title Assistant Football Coach (Part-time) Department Athletics FLSA Exempt Job Summary
Missouri Western State University announces a search for a Part-time Assistant Football Coach to join our Athletics Department. The Assistant Football Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Football Coach with all facets of creating a successful football program. The Assistant Football Coach will recruit talented student- athletes from high schools and colleges, and will coach student-athletes for specific positions within the football team.
The dates for this hire are: start date: 08/01/2026 and will end on 4/30/2027.
This part-time position may be renewable for a 9-month position working August 1st to April 30th annually. No benefits.
Located in St. Joseph, Missouri, just 45 minutes north of Kansas City, Missouri Western is a NCAA Division II institution, which successfully competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in 16 sports and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in 1 sport.
Essential Job Duties
  • Assist with scouting and recruiting for the football team.
  • Develop player skills, coaching student-athletes for a specific position.
  • Teach players the fundamental techniques and schemes within the team structure that are necessary to be successful and safe on the football field.
  • Monitor the academic performance of football student-athletes and hold them accountable for attending class.
  • Monitor the mental and physical health of student-athletes.
  • Assist with the organization of the football alumni golf tournament.
  • Lead equipment operations for the football program.
  • Supervise student workers in the equipment room.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • This position requires a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Must have three to five years of experience in collegiate football coaching and/or playing.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED training is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport.
  • Knowledge of the specific skills required for each position.
  • Ability to be creative, and to create a playbook and schematics to enable a team to have the best chance of winning.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to develop relationships with players and prospective players.
  • Ability to coach student-athletes.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
  • Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Physical Demands Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additional Demands
  • Generally works in an office or an indoor or outdoor sports environment.
  • May be exposed to the loud noise of an audience at games.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
  • Position requires heavy physical activity, and the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
