Trico LivingWell is a new older adult living community in Kingsland, Calgary. It is Canada's first Older Adult aging-in-place community pursuing the vigorously vetted WELL v2TM Certification from International WELL Building Institute a premier framework and performance-based system for buildings with features that advance human health and well-being worldwide. Trico LivingWell offers a campus of care and services for independent living, assisted living, and dementia care accommodations respectful to individual rights, choices, needs, abilities, and enjoyment.

We are hiring Health Care Aides on a full-time, part-time basis!

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Health & Wellness, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is an unregulated healthcare employee, trained to provide personal care and related services in a Trico Living Well (TLW) community. The HCA functions under the direction, instruction, and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN)/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) while adhering to all related provincial/local acts and standards, regulatory health authorities, TLWs standards, guidelines, policies and procedures and WELL Building standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adheres and supports residents with personal care services and activities of daily living based on the personalized health care plan developed for each resident;
  • Supports and maintains a healthy, clean, and safe environment; including resident and nursing equipment;
  • Encourages residents to eat a proper diet and take adequate fluids while respecting the residents right to free choice;
  • Initiates and participates in wellness activities provided for residents as described in the wellness programs/services and encourages residents to socialize and participate in planned activities or programs to develop friendships with other residents;
  • Observes, documents, and reports on any changes in residents mental, physical, and functional condition to the RN/LPN supervisor; including safety concerns, emergencies, and physical environment;
  • Provides medication administration support under the direction and supervision of the RN/LPN, in accordance with the Alberta Health Medication Administration Program guidelines, and with recognized certification and annual competency training;
  • Carries out treatments as directed by regulated professional Staff, RN/LPN, and documents accordingly;
  • Responds to resident, family, and visitor concerns and ensures appropriate action is taken within decision-making authority, and/or concern is reported to RN/LPN;
  • Understands, practices, and follows all Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures;

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions consistent with the job requirements in English;
  • Graduate of a Health Care Aide Program- recognized by Alberta Health and must be enrolled in the Health Care Aides (HCA) Directory. (HCAs who graduated from other provinces or countries and did not complete their education through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution in Alberta must complete the Substantial Equivalence (SE) Assessment);
  • Must provide Assistant with Medication certification;
  • 2 years + experience working with older adults in the community health services is an asset;
  • Valid Basic Cardiac Life Support certification an asset;
  • Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties;
  • Current (within 6 months) Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
