Position Description
This position is for students who are currently enrolled at a Career Technical/Vocational School who would like to start to start gaining career experience as a Student Partner in the summer between their junior and senior year of high school and during their senior year of high school. Some career technical/vocational schools include: Ft. Hayes Career Center, Mid-East Career and Technology Centers, Pickaway Ross Career & Technology Center, Eastland-Fairfield Career Center, Stanberry High School, Fairfield Union High School, Tri-County Career Center, Ohio Construction Academy, Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County (C-TEC), and South-Western Career Academy.
Students who take part in an Electrical program at a Career Technical School may be eligible to have their high school education count for part of their classroom experience, shortening the sponsored apprenticeship to three years. We work with Career Technical programs around the state to recruit qualifying juniors who are eligible for School-to-Apprenticeship programs that allow you to work on a jobsite during your senior year and apply that to your schooling.
JOB DEFINITION: Provides Electrical Construction and Maintenance Services for Claypool Electric, Inc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Plans layout, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment: Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes. Installs system components and wiring in compliance with the NEC and NFPA. Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using tools, such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender. Pulls wiring through conduit. Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps. Connects wiring to control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools. Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads. Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope. May be required to hold licenses. Ensures accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects. Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
โ€ข Knowledge of installing, repairing and operating building electrical and emergency power generation
systems.
โ€ข Knowledge of operating, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems of various applications.
โ€ข Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC).
โ€ข Knowledge of local and national regulatory electrical codes and requirements.
โ€ข Knowledge of safety procedures for the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems.
โ€ข Knowledge of safety precautions when operating motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools.
โ€ข Skill in installing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and emergency power generation
systems.
โ€ข Skill in reading and evaluating electrical blueprints, panel layout sheets and other technical schematics.
โ€ข Skill in using analytical and research skills to define and solve problems.
โ€ข Skill in operating motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools.
โ€ข Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Will be required to work outside the traditional work schedule. Basic English language, math, reading and writing skills are required. May be called out to work off-shift or in emergency situations. This position requires frequent exposure to hazardous work environments and working near high voltage, hazardous machinery, equipment and materials. Requires frequent travel to the jobsite.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift heavy objects. This position requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders and working in cramped spaces. May be exposed to inclement weather.
