Job description

We are seeking Professional Registered Nurse (RN) Tutors for our Nursing Program at both Passaic and Sussex campuses. The RN tutors should have strong interpersonal and communication skills to support academic learning and student success. The primary responsibilities of an RN Tutor are to aid students in understanding complex concepts and theories in nursing, prepare for exams/quizzes, assignments, and various projects. RN Tutors will help students improve their study skills and test-taking abilities. RN Tutors also help with time management, develop critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills, and apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice. Tutors provide individual and/or group tutoring to students across a broad range of nursing content and throughout their lifespan.


This is a part-time, hourly position.

Examples of Duties:

  • Facilitate and/or help organizing and teaching tutoring workshops for nursing students.
  • Provide subject-specific content to help nursing students in understanding key concepts to improve academic performance.
  • Provide remediation to nursing students.
  • Develop individual learning plans for students with assistance from faculty.
  • Develop and implement NCLEX-RN and test-taking strategy workshops.
  • Conduct medication calculation workshops and administer retests (as needed).
  • Maintain records of student participation in group and individual reviews and monitor student performance.
  • Participate in Nursing Staff Meetings and professional development activities to improve tutorial skills.
  • Assist students with exam/quiz review, homework, projects, subject matter test preparation, NCLEX-RN test review, papers, research and other academic tasks
  • Make appropriate referrals to other campuses and community resources as needed.
  • Accurately report and document interactions with tutees using Blumen, the internal record keeping system.
  • Provide regular and ongoing communication regarding student performance to assigned faculty/staff and Associate Dean of Nursing.
  • Perform mid-semester and end-of semester performance review (as needed).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in nursing required.
  • New Jersey Registered Professional Nurse License (active and unencumbered).
  • Understanding of computer-assisted instruction and computer testing.
  • Degree is preferred in the subject area.

The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.

Compensation: The hourly pay for this position is $17.
