Senior Multimedia Systems Engineer
Rothe is seeking a part-time Senior Multimedia Systems Engineer local to JSC area with strong project management, financial management, system integration, and JSC video system (Dalet) expertise to support the NASA eMITS contract.
eMITS is NASA’s enterprise-level service for delivering multimedia, IT communication platforms, and digital content supporting the Agency’s mission. From capturing rocket launches to delivering enterprise IT solutions and digital outreach, eMITS integrates mission-critical communications across NASA OCIO and OCOMM. This position offers a unique opportunity to directly support NASA’s mission to inspire discovery and share NASA’s story with the world.
This role provides senior-level oversight of special projects requiring design, development, implementation, and lifecycle management of complex multimedia, A/V, imagery, and broadcast systems. The selected candidate will also assist in engineering planning, systems analysis, vendor coordination, and technical oversight of installation and maintenance activities for NASA JSC’s multimedia infrastructure as it relates to the JSC video management systems.
This is an onsite position. Candidates are required to reside locally in the following NASA location: Johnson Space Center (JSC).
Functional Responsibilities:
Systems Engineering amp; Integration
  • Participate in the design, build, and integration of complex multimedia, broadcast, A/V, and imagery systems.
  • Provide technical analysis for new hardware systems, upgrades, risk assessments, and implementation plans.
  • Draft detailed engineering plans, analyses, workflows, and cost estimations.
Project amp; Program Management
  • Provide project oversight for installation, maintenance, and operations staff.
  • Assign, track, and ensure compliance of personnel work activities.
Financial amp; Contract Management
  • Oversee financial planning, forecasting, reconciliation, and budget tracking of engineering projects.
  • Oversee creation, tracking, and reconciliation of complex PRs, POs, vendor invoices, and purchasing assignments.
Multimedia Systems amp; Enterprise Architecture Support
  • Provide senior expertise on Dalet and its integrations across NASA (IO and eMITS).
  • Support legacy conference rooms, CATV modernization approaches, IPTV integration in B8, WAN video deployment, satellite reception systems, and public distribution at JSC.
  • Support parsing and transition of VRPS system components to other organizational users.
  • Contribute to plans and issue resolution for Teague Auditorium and other key NASA facilities.
  • Support eMITS relationship with AEGIS including dark fiber configurations and network considerations.
Remote, hybrid, and onsite positions: Employees are responsible for the cost of travel to the nearest NASA Center for badging and issuance of NASA IT equipment.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Education: BA/BS
Minimum Experience: 8 years of related experience in project and financial management with engineering television and AV systems/Electronics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience engineering television and A/V systems and a college degree in Electronics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of multimedia and broadcast systems, system design principles, AutoCAD, and electronics engineering.
  • Experience administering Vault and MPulse systems, including drafting standards, release modes, and engineering documentation workflows.
  • Familiarity with NASA or federal procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Deltek, Oracle) for managing PRs, POs, and vendor invoicing.
  • Extensive knowledge of SMPTE standards, NEC codes, A/V requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to think, plan, and work independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees, customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and commitment to staying current with emerging technologies.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and provide daily/weekly project reporting.
  • Experience managing technical crews and coordinating work with General Contractors.
  • Expertise in the latest version of AutoCAD drafting software.
  • Knowledge of databases and A/V drafting schemas.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, OneDrive), as well as SharePoint and Box.
  • Experience working in sensitive or mission-critical environments, with awareness of federal IT security protocols and data handling standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting NASA, aerospace, DoD, or other large federal technical environments.
  • Strong ability to analyze complex systems, identify gaps, and independently develop solutions.
  • Experience coordinating with NASA facility teams, including dig permits, Mission Control Center interfaces (B8/B30), and SCH protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with the JSC Dalet, Evertz, Cobalt, Ross, Sony and Sencore systems. An understanding of satellite reception systems and IP-based video content distribution networks used in NASA or similar enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership in guiding system architecture transitions and modernization efforts.
  • Member or Certified by the ADDA or ADDA (digital) program preferred.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • Certification or training in systems architecture or enterprise IT modernization.
  • A suitable individual should have experience with the following technologies:
