Job description

Description
Peer Advocate (Certified Peer Specialist / CRPA)
Are you a Peer Advocate (Certified Peer Specialist / CRPA) who wants to spend your time with people, not paperwork? Join Nao Medical in New York, NY, as a Part-Time Peer Advocate earning $40,000-$53,000. The hardest chapters of your own story become your greatest professional strength here, and you'll have the tools and team to turn that strength into real outcomes for New Yorkers who need someone who gets it.
About Nao Medical
Nao Medical is a modern, multi-specialty healthcare network committed to accessible, high-quality, patient-centered care. For 13+ years, we've proudly served over a million New Yorkers by combining clinical excellence with compassionate service to create healthier communities.
Why You'll Love This Role
  • Your story is the qualification. The hardest things you've lived through become your greatest professional strength here, not something to hide.
  • Less admin, more humans. AI copilots handle notes, documentation, and resource sourcing, so your time goes to people, not paperwork.
  • Impact at scale. Join a network that's served over a million New Yorkers and help shape the next chapter of total-person care.
  • Grow your craft. Ongoing training in trauma-informed care and peer support, plus a clear path to CPS/CRPA certification.
  • A real seat at the table. Work shoulder-to-shoulder with MDs, NPs, PAs, and social workers in a stigma-free team that genuinely values the peer voice.
  • Modern and flexible. Telemedicine tools let you meet patients where they are, remotely or in person.
Compensation + Benefits
  • Salary Range: $40,000-$53,000 (based on experience and certification level)
  • Family Perks: Free discounted care for you and your family at any Nao Medical Clinic.
  • Time to Recharge: Paid Time Off and paid leave programs.
  • Room to Grow: Eligible for full medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, and $50,000 Life and AD&D coverage upon transition to full-time.
What You'll Do
  • Peer support & empowerment: Use shared lived experience to build trust with patients in crisis, recovery, or chronic stress, co-create person-centered recovery goals, and use motivational interviewing to re-engage those who avoid traditional care.
  • Peer-led education & encouragement: Teach wellness tools like WRAP plans and self-help groups, and walk beside patients through their care journey for long-term stability and safety.
  • Care coordination & warm handoffs: Coordinate outreach with inpatient, psychiatric, and detox facilities to bring patients smoothly into Nao's outpatient care, and manage a digital patient load with timely, HIPAA-compliant follow-ups.
  • Tech-enabled documentation: Document encounters in the EMR and lean on AI copilots for notes, resource sourcing, and New York State compliance, so you spend less time on admin and more with patients.
  • Team collaboration: Partner with clinical leads, social workers, and the medical team (MDs, NPs, PAs) to reduce stigma, share the patient perspective, and improve clinic workflows across our hub locations.
  • Growth & flexibility: Join monthly syncs and one-on-ones, complete trauma-informed care training, and stay flexible with scheduling, including some evenings or weekends.

Requirements
  • Certification (highly preferred): Active NY State Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) or Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA), or eligible/in progress to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. An associate's/bachelor's in human services is a plus, not a must.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of formal or informal peer support, ideally in a clinic, shelter, or community health setting.
  • Care-transition know-how: Comfort conducting outreach within inpatient psychiatric, medical, or rehab facilities.
  • Local fluency: Working knowledge of NY recovery networks, harm-reduction models, and social support systems.
  • Bilingual (Spanish): Highly preferred, a major plus.
  • Heart for it: Empathy, emotional resilience, and professionalism in high-stress moments.
