As the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in California, we protect constitutional rights, advance justice, and empower communities through legal advocacy, public policy, civic engagement, and education.

Since 1994, that work has been made possible by a dedicated team committed to serving individuals, families, and communities across California. Behind every case, campaign, and initiative are people working together to create meaningful change.

Whether you serve clients directly or support our mission behind the scenes, your work helps build a more just, inclusive, and equitable California.

How You'll Make an Impact

As the Outreach Coordinator, you will strengthen relationships between CAIR and the American Muslim community throughout Santa Barbara County by building meaningful partnerships, expanding awareness of our programs and services, and connecting individuals with resources that support and empower their communities.

Through outreach events, educational programs, volunteer engagement, and collaboration with local mosques, Muslim Student Associations (MSAs), nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and other partners, you will help advance CAIR's mission and increase our impact across the region.

In this role, you will:

  • Build and strengthen community relationships by developing and implementing outreach strategies that increase CAIR's presence and accessibility throughout Santa Barbara County. Establish and maintain relationships with local mosques, Islamic centers, Muslim Student Associations (MSAs), youth groups, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other community partners.
  • Coordinate and represent CAIR at community events and programs by participating in outreach and educational activities, including Friday prayer outreach, Ramadan initiatives, Know Your Rights presentations, resource fairs, educational workshops, community meetings, conferences, and other community events. Assist with planning and promoting community engagement initiatives, fundraising campaigns, Ramadan outreach, annual fundraising events, and other organizational programs.
  • Engage and support volunteers and community members by recruiting, coordinating, and building relationships with volunteers through outreach efforts, community events, and ongoing engagement activities.
  • Support outreach communications and organizational initiatives by creating and distributing educational and outreach materials, maintaining outreach resources, and collaborating with internal departments to promote CAIR's civil rights services, legal services, civic engagement initiatives, educational programming, advocacy campaigns, and community resources.
  • Maintain outreach records and provide operational support by tracking community partnerships, volunteer engagement, and event participation; attending meetings and trainings; and assisting with day-to-day office operations and other duties as assigned.

What You Bring:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or at least two years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience in community outreach, nonprofit organizations, volunteer coordination, or community organizing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, written, and verbal communication skills, with a high degree of professionalism and public speaking experience.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and individuals from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, SharePoint, and common cloud-based applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with and experience working within the American Muslim community.
  • Fluency/proficiency in one of the following languages: Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, or Urdu.
  • Strong commitment to CAIR's mission and values.
  • Experience using social media platforms and digital communications tools.
