Job description

Put Your Mechanical Skills to Work Helping People
Are you mechanically inclined and good at figuring out why something doesn't work? Do you enjoy working with your hands—but also enjoy helping people? Mobility Plus Greenville is looking for a Part-Time Mobility Equipment Service Technician / Customer Consultant to join our growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician, maintenance professional, skilled tradesperson, veteran, semi-retired professional, or mechanically talented person who wants meaningful work without a full-time schedule.

This is not a typical retail job.
You'll spend your time helping customers, troubleshooting and repairing mobility equipment, making deliveries, and helping install accessibility products in customers' homes. One day you might diagnose a mobility scooter that won't run. The next you might repair a lift chair, deliver a power wheelchair, install a grab bar, help with a ramp installation, or help a veteran find the right mobility solution.

The common denominator is simple: Your work helps people stay mobile, safe, and independent.

Schedule
This is a part-time position averaging approximately 20–30 hours per week. We're looking for someone who can become a dependable part of our regular weekly operation—not someone who simply picks up occasional shifts. The exact schedule can be discussed based on the needs of the business and the right candidate.

Some flexibility is important because customer deliveries, service calls, and installations don't always fit perfectly into predetermined time blocks.

 What You'll Do
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Troubleshoot, service, and repair mobility scooters, power wheelchairs, lift chairs, and manual wheelchairs
  • Troubleshoot batteries, chargers, motors, controllers, wiring, switches, wheels, brakes, and other components
  • Assemble and prepare new mobility equipment
  • Deliver mobility equipment to customers
  • Set up and adjust equipment in customers' homes
  • Teach customers and caregivers how to safely use their equipment
  • Install or assist with grab bars, ramps, vehicle lifts, stair lifts, bathroom safety products, and other accessibility equipment
  • Take measurements for accessibility products
  • Help customers identify appropriate mobility and accessibility solutions
  • Demonstrate equipment in our showroom
  • Assist customers by phone and in person
  • Receive and assemble inventory
  • Maintain an organized service area, tools, showroom, and company vehicle
  • Accurately document repairs, deliveries, and customer interactions
  • Pitch in wherever needed as part of a small team

Mobility Experience Is Helpful — But Not Required
We're not limiting our search to people who have previously worked with mobility equipment. We are looking for transferable mechanical experience and demonstrated problem-solving ability. If you're the person friends and family call when something breaks because you can usually figure it out, we want to talk with you.

Who We're Looking For
Our ideal teammate:

  • Has strong mechanical aptitude
  • Enjoys troubleshooting
  • Is comfortable using hand and power tools
  • Takes pride in doing quality work
  • Can think through a problem instead of immediately giving up
  • Is patient and respectful with customers
  • Communicates clearly
  • Is comfortable working with older adults, veterans, caregivers, and people with disabilities
  • Can work independently
  • Shows up when expected
  • Follows through on commitments
  • Takes responsibility when something goes wrong
  • Is willing to ask questions when they don't know something
  • Accepts feedback and wants to improve
  • Is comfortable learning new technology
  • Helps teammates without being asked
  • Treats customers' homes and property with respect

This Probably Isn't the Right Job If You...

  • Don't enjoy working with tools
  • Don't like troubleshooting
  • Need constant supervision
  • Don't enjoy working directly with customers
  • Regularly say, "That's not my job"
  • Leave unfinished problems for someone else
  • Make excuses instead of taking responsibility
  • Don't take feedback well
  • Are looking for a job where doing the minimum is enough

We're a small business. Every person on the team matters.

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred but not required:

  • Battery-powered equipment repair
  • Field-service experience

  • Experience working with older adults, veterans, or people with disabilities

Who This Position Could Be Ideal For
This could be an especially good opportunity for someone who:

  • Has spent a career in a mechanical or skilled trade and wants fewer hours
  • Is looking for meaningful work with a purpose
  • Is someone with mechanical or technical experience
  • Has field-service experience and wants a more predictable local position
  • Wants 20–30 hours per week rather than a traditional 40-hour schedule
  • Wants work where technical ability directly improves people's lives

We're interested in what you can do—not whether your previous job title perfectly matches ours.

 What Success Looks Like
We want you to become someone we can confidently tell "Take care of this customer" and know you'll take ownership from there by:

  • Listening to the customer.
  • Figuring out the problem.
  • Finding the right solution.
  • doing quality work.
  • treating the customer better than you would like to be treated.
  • following through.
  • When something goes wrong, you'll tell us: "Here's what happened, and here's how I'm fixing it."

How to Apply
Please submit your resume through ZipRecruiter, and answer these three questions:

  1. Tell us about something mechanical or technical you diagnosed and repaired. What was wrong, how did you figure it out, and what did you do?
  2. Tell us about a time you took responsibility for solving a problem that technically wasn't "your job."
  3. Why are you interested in a 20–30 hour per week position, and what type of weekly schedule works best for you?

We actually read the answers.
We're looking for someone who is mechanically capable, dependable, curious, humble, good with people, and willing to take ownership. If that sounds like you, we'd like to meet you.
