Job Description:

  • Assesses the spiritual needs of patients to assist the healing process as part of a holistic team.
  • Provides focused attention to patients, loved ones, and staff without agenda, effectively listening and responding to their needs.
  • Conveys personalized care to patients, families, and staff, ensuring they feel cared for and supported. Enables patients, loved ones, and staff to experience God's nearness, safety, and comfort.
  • Assists patients, loved ones, and staff in articulating their struggles and identifying their inner resources of strength, meaning, faith, and hope.
  • Helps patients and loved ones with major health decisions, clarifying moral, medical, and ethical issues.
  • Enables patients, loved ones, and staff to seek their spiritual center and uses religious and culturally appropriate resources.
  • Regularly visits patients, loved ones, and staff, making rounds and checking in with clinical staff in assigned areas.
  • Responds appropriately to all code blues and other emergencies, verifying patient identity, notifying family, and coordinating with staff, family, and legal authorities.
  • Documents and charts pastoral activities in compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations.
  • Promotes and develops the coordination of care by participating in interdisciplinary conferences and contributing significant data for comprehensive and holistic care plans.
  • Mentors chaplain interns and residents as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Operate within the guidelines of the profession, upholding standards of practice and competencies at all times [Required]
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a healthcare environment providing effective spiritual care for patients, families, and staff through individual and group pastoral counseling, spiritual care, and emotional support [Required]
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English with excellent oral communication skills [Required]
  • Display excellent customer service, organization, and people skills [Required]
  • Maintain continuing education hours as outlined by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE) [Required]
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Internet Explorer; experience with Cerner or other Electronic Healthcare Record applications [Preferred]
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
  • Personal commitment to God, emotional stability, sound physical health, and the ability to work under stress [Required]
  • Effectively relate to persons of diverse religious, educational, and cultural backgrounds and earn the respect of all team members [Required]
  • Knowledge of current counseling theories and practices, compliance with legal and ethical parameters based on the level of education and certification [Required]

  • Knowledge of electronic medical record systems and ability to follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment when indicated [Required]

Education:

  • Master's [Required]

Field of Study:

  • Master's of Divinity degree or other graduate theological degree (72-hour minimum) such as: pastoral care, spiritual care, etc. (as required for APC Board Certification qualification)

Work Experience:

  • 1+ of pastoral ministry or chaplaincy experience [Preferred]

Additional Information:

  • Minimum of 4 units of ACPE, Inc. accredited CPE (Level 1 and Level 2 engaged) [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Ordained Minister (ORDM) [Preferred] OR Commissioned Minister Credential (ADM) [Preferred]
  • Ecclesiastical Endorsement Certificate (CHAPLAIN) [Preferred]
  • Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) [Preferred]
