Job description

The New School, a university known for its progressive approach to education, comprises seven outstanding Divisions bound by a common purpose: To educate and inspire undergraduate, graduate, and adult learners to make significant contributions to their own fields and to the world at large. Located in historic Greenwich Village, the New School launches the careers of world citizens whose ideas, innovations, and accomplishments forge new paths in design, humanities, public policy, the social sciences, and the performing arts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Parsons School of Design at The New School is accepting applications for possible Part-Time Faculty positions in all five design schools for upcoming semesters. Class times may be evenings and/or weekends. Duties may include the following:
  • Teaching graduate and/or undergraduate students within a defined field of expertise;
  • Developing and managing course syllabi and ensuring that syllabi meet Program and School standards;
  • Planning and creating lectures, discussions, and course assignments;
  • Assessing student learning outcomes and aiding student success;
  • Submitting grades in a timely manner.

Part-time faculty at The New School bargain collectively through Academics Come Together, ACT-UAW, Local 7902.
QUALIFICATIONS
Vary by disciplinary area, but generally require:
  • A terminal degree in the field of specialty is preferred (MFA, PH.D, ABD, or equivalent);
  • 2-3 years of teaching experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives, preferably in a College, University, and/or Art and Design school settings;
  • Ability to work with diverse students and colleagues;
  • Proven success creating inclusive classrooms;
  • Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy and requirements.

HOURLY RATE
Studio Hourly Rate: $135/contact hr
Seminar Hourly Rate: $156/contact hr
