The Cannon-Albright/Allen-Brady lab is seeking a part-time Lab Technician to join our team investigating the inherited causes of disease. We utilize the unique UPDB computerized genealogy and 36,000 stored DNAs from Utah high-risk pedigrees to identify candidate inherited disease predisposition variants. The successful candidate will be an integral member of our research group, providing technical support for ongoing projects and contributing to the lab's scientific achievements.

Responsibilities
Research Specialist

Perform experiments as directed by supervisors, including: inventory of new and used/processed DNA samples; any necessary transport of samples; utilizing lab software and sample inventories to identify requested sample sets, extraction of DNA from stored samples as required, Qubit measures of requested DNA samples, plating of required DNA sample sets, provision of required DNA sample sets to sequencing lab/facility, maintenance of sample inventories in laboratory sample inventory software, maintenance of freezers and alarm systems.
Assist with laboratory maintenance and reagent production as needed. Assist with laboratory equipment inventory annually. Assist with laboratory safety review annually
Stay up to date with required training and safety protocols. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). Attend weekly lab meetings, participate in discussion

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Research Specialist, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Research Specialist, III: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
Research Specialist, IV: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.
